Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The papyrus is all handmade and beautifully painted. The artwork is stunning. They'll make custom art with your name in hieroglyphics, too.

Picture was beautiful, but my name was very sloppy and ruined the painting I purchased. Be careful if there are too many of you, I ended up with a smudged name that I have to cover up,

It was authentic papyrus and a nice art selection in the shop. Negotiate the best deal possible in all of Egypt, and don't feel guilty here for doing the same. Nice group of people, and it was mostly a screen print style art that was signed. Keep in mind, it still comes from Egypt!
Nice stuff to buy. Try and get papyrus art at the end of the tour. Keeping up with it for 7 days is a nightmare!

The papyrus is on genuine papyrus parchment.

But most of the stock artwork seems to be “printed” on the papyrus and is not “hand painted” individually.

The list prices are outrageous as for the same piece which they listed as 30 USD was being sold at the Egyptian Museum for less than 11 USD (which being a gift shop of a museum is already overpriced). So you can imagine how much margin they keep.

!!! So bargain, bargain and bargain. Rule of thumb for 100 USD don’t pay more than 30 USD !!!

I did not know better so could only get a 20% discount :( and I bought 4 pieces :((

Unlike other places there is however an option to have your/of a loved one’s name painted on the spot in hieroglyphs on the papyrus.

We were taken to this shop by our trusted tour guide for a presentation on Papyrus. The quality and the price of the items was extraordinary. We purchased a small piece. No pressure sales efforts. The wrapped our small piece very carefully in a packaging tube. When we arrived home, it survived multiple baggage handlers. Very nice place and yes, they bargain on the prices.

The quality is excellent. Prices are very good for value. Worth paying what they say. This is good art which also helps artists. Not everything has to be cheap and bargaining.

My wife and I were part of a Egypt tour that stopped here and it is a beautiful location with many great papyrus to chose from. They start with a demonstration of how papyrus was made and painted and then move to the strong sell presentation. The pieces are authentic papyrus done by experts but are very overpriced. Don't be followed by fake papyrus sold on the streets for a fraction of the cost. They are just banana leaves or other fake material.

My advice is to strongly negotiate the price on any items as I was able to reduce the price we paid by 70%. The papyrus come from a workshop that supplies many shops and depending on the overhead you can pay much more than they paid for them. Negotiate, negotiate, and negotiate. Be prepared to walk away.

The store itself is very nice with decent bathrooms and they provide drinks and a place to relax. You're paying for that though and ensure you don't overpay. The staff are very pleasant and knowledgeable.

Make sure you bargain welly with them. The scale is 1/10, meaning if they ask for $100, then you bargain for $10.
