At over 240 feet long and 66 feet high, it’s a wonder that this mysterious sculpture was carved from a solid limestone block.

    A Wonder of the World
We didn’t walk up close but it was spectacular from the viewpoint area. You should have a guide or research explanation to fully appreciate what you see and how it was constructed. Mind boggling. It’s usually very hot, so come prepared. We arrived by horse cart. Another interesting experience.

A must visit if in Egypt.
Just like the nearby pyramids, to be able to stand in front of this world famous piece of human history is amazing. The picture opportunities are plentiful and with the right tour guide, no one bothers you. We went on a Saturday, which was not that busy at all.

Last attraction we visited in the Giza Pyramids Areas
Having visited all the Pyramids in Giza location, we drove to this attraction. There are small shops along the way and wooden steps to walk on. It is a small area and we had to wait our turn to take photos. Parking is in the neighborhood area, at the entrance of the Sphinx.

    The Sphinx… a must visit!
We visited this amazing sculpture after the pyramids. It was carved from a very large piece of limestone and had the head of a human and the body of a lion. It is extraordinarily well preserved. There are lots of opportunities to take photos and while there are some stalls en route to the site, the street sellers were not as annoying as in other places.

    Enthralled by the Great Sphinx
I was enthralled by the Great Sphinx. It is located near the Pyramids of Giza. My wife and I got to see the Sphinx during a two week tour of Egypt this past December. I marvel at the old photos which show the Sphinx half covered in sand. And to see it now fully uncovered is fantastic. An item on my bucket list that I was fortunate enough to get to see.

    A must-see, but a little underwhelming
After visiting the pyramids for a few hours we walked over to the sphinx. My awe and enthrallment was given 100% to the pyramids so maybe I had little left, but I felt a tiny bit underwhelmed by the sphinx. Yes, it is stunning. Yes, it is a must-see. Yes, it is one of the world's most beautiful historical wonders. But... the pyramids had a much bigger effect on me.

    Typical must see
Must see stop by the pyramids. The entry and exit ways are littered with smelly camel droppings and shop fronts. Everything looks fake so don't buy anything. This is a quick stop, you're in for photos and out - likely 30 minutes max. There is apparently also a light show at night but we did not partake - it is a separate ticket.

Once in a life time 🌞
This is a once in a life time experience you must see, truly amazing. This is a small way from the pyramids of Giza but in photos it looks so close, which was a surprise to me. I would advise visiting very early to miss any crowds. Even in November it is still very warm. Would definitely recommend 🌞🌞

Egypt's #2 symbol after the pyramids themselves!
When a person thinks of Egypt, the pyramids come first, but the Sphinx is not far behind that. The pyramids at the background just makes the Sphinx look pretty epic. Getting into the Sphinx was pretty crowded and you have to fight to get to the railings. And even then there isn't enough room to reliably get a picture. Otherwise, if you ask people to move away for you take your picture, it will feel like you're the main character or something. So if you can, try climbing and take your picture from there. Don't forget to walk all the way to the back to see the lion's body!

    World icon
Located within the Great Pyramid complex in Giza, the Sphinx is a stunning world famous sight. It is still in generally very good condition, less the famously absent nose, and you get a good uninterrupted view because of how the site has been arranged. Access is through an impressive partially remaining temple where the king was prepared for burial. The backdrop of the pyramids adds to the wonder. There are lots of tourist items for sale once you leave the viewing area, but the sellers are not too pushy.

The great Sphinx is part of the funerary complex of Khepren. Normally one sees this after leaving the Pyramids.

The Great Sphinx in Giza is a mysterious marvel from the days of ancient Egypt. The body of a lion with the head of King Khepren or another god can be seen as the guardians of the monument. Over the years, the Sphinx has symbolized strength and wisdom and probably represents King Khepren as guardian of his own monument. Or was it built to protect the Pyramids?

After visiting the Pyramids one normally sees the Sphinx on the way out. Some good photos can be taken with the Sphinx in the front and the Pyramids behind.

This is an impressive structure sculpted in native limestone. However part of the face including the nose has been damaged and very little of its original colouring can still be discerned on the headcloth and eyebrows.

Despite the loss of much of its originality the Great Sphinx of Giza is a must-see when visiting Cairo.

There are many sphinx statues in Egypt, but this is by far the most impressive and deserves the title, Great. It is believed to be 4,500 years old and is made of limestone. When Stonehenge was being built in what is now the UK, ancient Egyptians were building the Great Sphinx. After parking the approach path is lined with souvenir sellers. The visit will take under an hour and is best done after visiting the nearby pyramids.

A visit to Cairo is not complete without gazing on the visage of the Great Sphinx. Two vantage points are important: one head on with the Sphinx perfectly aligned in from of the pyramid, and one from the right side showing the profile of the Sphinx. We visited with a Road Scholar group and a professional Egyptologist and he filled us on the specifications and meaning of this fantastic statue. You can get fairly close to it, but it is fenced off so that people won't climb on it or deface it. It is quite magnificent.

Tips ticket to go inside is 200 EP. You can easily walk and cover the area , so take a horse or cart only if u want to do it. Cart will come easily at 300 per head there are lot of street sellers, be careful when buying things, there are shops which sell good stuff at the same rate.

One of the ancient world's iconic monuments, perhaps after the Great Pyramid, The Sphinx is simple and smaller than I expected. Shaped like a recumbent lion that sits immediately northwest of the Pyramid of Cheops. The total length of sphinx is 73.5 meters, and its height is 20 meters. You can't go close and touch the Sphinx. After you get a front view, you can walk up the left hand side of Sphnix. A must see attraction. Come here as early as possible otherwise it will be really crowded.

The Great Sphinx is what you would expect, amazing! Really cool photos with the pyramids in the background. The light for photos is ideal in the morning, not as good in the afternoon. It will be really crowded unless your there really early, but still might be crowded.

When we were there, the place was very crowded.
Many were on the raised platform posing for photographs.
We walked further in and found photo spots with much less people.
There were locals who would help you take funny shots with the sphinx, if you are willing to pay some money.

The mysterious Sphinx is carved almost entirely from one piece of limestone. When Napoleon first set eyes on this monument, it was still covered in sand up to its neck. Today it has been excavated, revealing the paws of a resting lion and chambers ta it’s base. History is embedded in every block of stone and in the incomprehensible size of each structure standing tall in the desert sand. It was quite crowded. Phenomenal experience like no other.
They actually have some nice vendors there. Check out the guy that sells the lovely hand made baskets for $2.00. It helps the local village. Really nice. A MUST DO !

We’ve visited Cairo in Nov 2020 - and it was amazing to see the site without many tourists (because of pandemic). You can’t get close or next to the Sphinx, but there is a viewing area you can go to. If you visit the area in the evening, you can also see the Sphinx being lit up (without having to buy the Light & Sound tickets). A must see if you’re visiting Egypt!

Another amazing sight in Cairo to visit along with the pyramids.

While you can't walk right up to the structure like you can with the pyramids, you can still get close enough to see how detailed the carving is and just how magnificent in size the Sphinx really is.

Very limited shade in this area so be sure to wear a hat.
