Nice city view
Feb. 2018 • Friends
We went there at night.. There are some cafés & restaurants with a great view of the city..
The view at night is amazing..
It is one of 3 places where you can see the city from a higher level (the other 2 are: cairo tower & the citadel)
You can drink a cup of tea there in one of the cafés, & perhaps have a shisha (if you are into it), while enjoying the view..
But, they will offer you drinks & food at higher prices than normal.. Plus, don't forget to ask about the minimal charge, which is a trend there.. You may end up paying a lot, for just a cup of coffee or tea..
Make sure to take a jacket with you, because it is cold at night, up there..

Great view of the city

The highest place in Cairo where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city specially before sunset, where you can enjoy a clear view specially at winter.

Amazing view over Cairo at the cliff
Mar. 2016 • Friends
This spot is perfect to enjoy a breathtaking view over Cairo. We came by night and it was stunning. A relaxed hangout there is definitely recommended at this insider tip. There are no costs but the place can only be reached by car. Parking is right next to the cliff. One can also bring picnic.

It's a city of garbage collectors
Dec. 2015 • Friends
For thousands of years Mokkatom has been a garbage dump, primarily housing Coptic Christians who act as garbage collectors for the city. The infrastructure is poor, the people are poor, but the culture is vibrant & beautiful. One of Africa's largest churches is in the community. It is an amazing place to visit.

A great view
Jul. 2014 • Friends
I visited a monastery on the top of the mountain many years ago. It was nice to come back and take in the view over the whole of Cairo again. On a good day you can see the pyramids at Giza in the distance and the desert of miles around surrounding the city.

Peaceful
Mar. 2014 • Friends
So peaceful and quiet, perhaps the only quiet place you can find in the capital. The view from the top is amazing, all the small lights under your feet.

Go Tell it on the Mountain
Jul. 2013 • Couples
The winding drive when taken slowly, gives the illusion of great height. Located east of the city, via the Salah Salem, Mokattam Mountain is held in high esteem. However many would consider it a hill, or like myself, a sand dune. It is claimed to measure an utterly staggering 400 to 500 feet. I was breathless with wonder and had vertigo from the height.
Ahmed hired a fold up table, plastic chairs and even table cloth. Then he bought me a rose and a Fanta. He hired a man to sing what was surely a serenade in Egyptian. I pretended to be impressed and flattered as I sat in the Egyptian outdoors, atop the mountain, sipped from my Fanta bottle with the Arabian label and thought about another man.
