It is amazing to see a gigantic statue of Ramses II on the grounds of the city of Memphis which once a capital of Egypt. When Ramses II was pharaoh, the capital was in Pi-Ramses near Avaris and Tanis in the north-east of the delta. Our fantastic guide Fady el Mallach made us notice how one side of the statue... More

This statue was found in its current position and the viewing gallery built around it. It is enormous! The location is not too far from Cairo city, about 45 minutes drive, and worth every moment. The second largest sphinx and an upright statue of Ramses are outside in the courtyard outside.

Unbelievable detail in the sculpture depicting muscling in the thighs and arms. A perfect smile on perfectly shaped lips...these artists were incredibly talented.

This was in pristine shape with amazing detail. The sheer size of this statue is amazing. The surrounding artifacts are interesting to see as well.

Ramesses II greats you as you enter Memphis. This statue is just amazing, built from a single block of stone, the detail was stunning. I really enjoyed how they built a building around the statue and added a viewing floor so that you could check out the statue from above and all around.

Every visit to Cairo for me involves a... More

Just the size and the detail alone is beautiful let alone that's it's 3k years old and still intact or the fact that they found it in the city when building new homes. Don't miss the Memphis area

Memphis and the Mit Rahina museum is another tour stop in Cairo. Smaller collection of damaged artifacts with the collosel Ramesses statue on display. I was the only visitor.

Incredible to think that this was carved out of red granite by the ancient Egyptians. Very detailed, smooth, and too bad it wasn't fully intact when it was first discovered under thousands of years of mud.
