This vast open space, very close to the Egyptian Antiquities museum, was the site of huge demonstrations during the political upheavals of 2011 through 2013.

just spend a moment to reflect on what happened here and take it all in. If you have a chance to talk to locals you will get mixed answers; just listen. Don't add your opinion. The square happens to be right where the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities is. Things tend to be very crowded here. It's also one of the... More

Went here to go to visit the Visa office. I wouldn't classify this Square as a tourist attraction, although it has political significance and was the centre of the recent revolution so is important.

A famous and very busy square, it witnessed all the 2011 revolution events, overlooking the square is a big government complex, Cairo museum and Hilton hotel are nearby

You can simply stay in one of the gardens there and enjoy the fresh air in the early morning or the cool air at night. The Egyptian museum is there also. A... More

We walked on the square but not much to see. Lots of traffic in the area so be careful walking. Also be aware of people trying to sell you tourist items.

Our visit to Cairo was not going to be complete without a visit to this famous place of history and we werent disappointed. The qhole place was brimming with people. Many were taking pictures (apparently tourists like us), some where picnicking and some were just milling about walking leisurely. I felt like I was standing inside a book of history... More

As many of us are keenly aware, Tahrir Square is where the 2011 revolution broke out and led to a new political landscape in Egypt. I spoke to many locals about their experiences, and as you'd expect, there are mixed opinions about the outcome. Generally, many appreciated the need for change, but the resulting instability has seriously crippled much-needed tourism... More
