A relaxing escape from the madness
This was a perfect escape from the madness of Cario, after the bazaar we needed a tea and sit down in the sunshine. We enjoyed it so much we stayed for dinner. There are two restaurants with very comfy seating and lovely views. The park is open till 10pm. Getting a taxi from outside was east as people are being dropped off all the time. What a wonderful space.

Piękny Park w Kairze. Wonderful Place in Cairo.
So Incredibly wonderful Place in big city. Really amazing. Ten park jest spokojną i piękną ucieczką od ruchliwych ulic Kairu. Jest bardzo duży i ma wspaniały widok na miasto. W parku znajduje się także ładne jezioro i kilka dobrych restauracji. The Park includes more than two million trees and plants. It is situated in an excellent location with dazzling views, and the best shaded walkways. It has a large play area for children and families to appreciate their holiday and have a fantastic time. Al-Azhar Park covers a range of 80 acres of land, and it was named after the iconic Al-Azhar Mosque, the oldest surviving Fatimid landmark in Egypt. Al-Azhar Park is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. It is a place where people can relax, enjoy the scenery, and breathe fresh air.

Still a good escape in Cairo but...
The park is still one of my favorite destination in Cairo. The entry fees are still affordable to many persons. The gardens are still in a fine status but grassy areas need more care. Cleaning needs more efforts because of some visitors bad behaviors. The lake also needs more care. Generally, it is a very good place to visit and revisit and also not to be missed in Cairo.

    Green space with spectacular views
Our guide was very proud of Al Azhar Park. Converted from a garbage dump by the Aga Khan it was opened in 2005. It is 72 acre park in Old Cairo with views of the Citadel with a lake and water features. In February the flowers weren't spectacular but the green space, so rare in Old Cairo, was. There is a fee to enter. The Islamic Cairo tours with their little golf cart depart here. We ate at Studio Misr with views over Old Cairo to the Cairo Citadel. I also bought a nice little cushion cover in one of their two discrete craft shops, credit cards accepted.

Showing Cairo chaos can be turned into order and harmony
Visited on a sunny Tuesday afternoon and was surprised by the number of visitors. Perhaps showing how popular the park meanwhile has become. Compared to seven years ago when I went here for the first time nothing else has changed much. Efforts to keep the park clean are still tremendous, as many people still throw their garbage around (probably without knowing the park was once a garbage dump). Anyway, Al Azhar park is a wonderful place. Well maintained with many trees, shrubs and flowers, green grassy spaces to sit and relax. City noise is far away and there are nice views from a few hilltops. Restaurants were very busy. Entrance fee for foreigners 40 EGP

Do not miss out!! Absolutely amazing
Plan was to visit for a couple of hours but spent over 5 hours!!! The peace and beauty was amazing. The skyline was amazing and so many different views available. I sat in the citadel restaurant which was stunning and the food was so cheap but delicious. Sat and read my book and took in views. Also lovely souvenir shop that you can leisurely look at , without pressure. The real action is at the other end of the park where they have a cafe. This is where the locals hang out. I went on a Friday and OHMG so many wedding couples and families come uptake pictures and celebrate. What a privilege to see local life playing out. Children playing, families having picnics and tourists mingling in was such a joy. Probably the best day out on this short trip. Do not miss out!!

Waste of time and money. There is almost nothing to do inside the park, but also the access points are very limited so you have to walk a lot. Besides this the camera fee is higher than the entry ticket making it completely unfair….. there are a lot of places to go, but this one is very very bad….

Entrance for tourists costs 40 EGP, for a photo camera a ticket of 300 EGP must be purchased.
The park is nice and well maintained. There is a viewing platform with views over the city, various avenues and fountains. Locals use the park for wedding photos or dates.
Arrival and departure by taxi or TukTuk, the nearest metro is about an hour walk away.

It is amazing that this green space stands in what used to be a completely derelict and neglected area of the city and it's obvious when visiting that the locals really appreciate it and maximise its use. To be honest, i was a little disappointed as we had come from a while away to visit and I feel like within half an hour, we had seen it all. There isn't much to do as such in the park, unless you visit one of the restaurants but it's a nice place to bring people together.

We recommend to visit this park just to enjoy beautiful green place, nice atmosphere apart of noisy city. The entrance was 25 LE for adults and 15 LE for kids. Picturesque views to old Cairo, Citadel and another part of the city. There is kids playground here and some cafes to spend time. You can bring your food with you and just sit on the grass - this is what local families do, making picnic in the fresh air.

it is a lovely air breathe area you can escape too. lovely view from different angles of old Cairo. 15 minutes walk to Khan ElKhalili and Hussien area. Good cafes but service is not top-notch. Restaurants are perfectly situated but food quality is poor especially on Egyptian public occasions. You can go with your family and friends. kids' area may be crowded and poorly serviced They have good venues for business meetings.

I'm not throwing shade on the park at all. I'm just saying there are so many amazing unique things to see that a park probably doesn't justify the time. We have a full video review if you'd like to know what to expect. Just search YouTube for DOUGandNIKI and you'll find a whole Egypt playlist which includes this site.

It’s such a beautiful park in the middle of Cairo. We loved the greenery and the fountains. Our visit to the park was on Friday which is a day off for Egyptian and the park was buzzing with people. It was so nice to see families sitting together and children playing games and having fun. We must have seen 12 brides and grooms with photographers. It is the best green space in Cairo. Very thankful to His Highness the Aga Khan for this amazing and beautiful garden. Recommend it to everyone visiting Cairo.
