Heliopolis used to be a great old part of Cairo to visit but it has been left to get so rundown that it is such a shame to see the state it is now in. Beautiful old buildings but are now crumbling around

The sprawling Cairo area makes it all seem like a bit too much. The Heliopolis area is, by comparison, much easier to handle. Since there was essentially nothing but desert here until the end of the 19th Century, Heliopolis has a very 20th Century feel. Some of the best meals and the finest desserts I have had in seven visits... More

I have always loved Heliopolis, specifically Korba. The architecture always captures you. Walking in a live aisle of history delivers one's soul to a different universe. Unique area, must visit.

Not far from Caior's down town there is a place created in 19th century by the architect Baron ( the one who build Paris' Metro). His residence, now is empty but the architecture of his house is amazing: a mix of indian and local architectural influences is obviously. A quieter area compared to the chaos of downtown Cairo. Many upscale hotels in the area without the hefty pricetag of downtown.
