In all honesty, I only went here because it was included in the tour, and it was easily our favorite stop. It is the oldest pyramid. And while it is not nearly as large as the Giza pyramids, it is significantly less crowded. We were...More

I had not heard of the pyramids of saqqara before a few days ago, when our tour guide took us there before stopping at the major site at Giza. It was spectacular and absolutely worth seeing. Some of the oldest stone buildings in the world...More

When it comes right down to it, they all looked about the same, in the middle of the desert, and no shade for miles. But I couldn't let life go by without seeing them.

Saqqara is a stunning ancient location. The main site is the amazing step pyramid that was a precursor to the pyramids at Giza. The other buildings attached to the site also demonstrate what master builders the Egyptians were. We also visited a local carpet school...More

I’m so glad we visited Saqqara before we headed to Giza. To see how Imhotep designed the first Pyramid and the changes that were made to get to the final pyramids of today, was so interesting. Certainly worth a half day visit.

A little less busy than Giza, yet not without all the usual touts who are not quite as agressive. It was marvellous to see the reconstructed funerary complex of Djoser, the step pyramid and the excellent tomb of Ti.
