- traveltotelltalesSingapore, Singapore154 contributionsRich villageThe village is no longer a village. It has a posh appeal for every property is residential with luxury cars at the behest. However, the area does have a local architecture vibe to it and makes it a good pit-stop. The alleys are weirdly shaped with sudden sharp inclinations. U have the village on both sides of the main road.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 9 October 2023
- RoyalSilkEdgware, United Kingdom439 contributionsA Tourist Trip - But Worth A VisitIt's a tourist attraction rather than an authentic village - glad I don't actually live there - but still worth seeing. However beware that it's very hilly. There is a trail to follow. We went on a Monday morning and it was very busy. They suggest visiting between 10am and 5pm and not on Sundays although it's not closed off. The actual houses looked pretty well refurbished to me and most of the street looked like it was laid very recently.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 22 October 2023

If you stay nearby the guesthouse just beware that it's tough to get taxi out of the place. We had to drag our luggage from Bukchon Sosunjae Guesthouse all the way to the train station past the palace after an hour wait for taxi not even uber. It's ridiculous! The traditional Hanok experience was just for experience. No toiletries other than toilet rolls and soap to shower with shampoo. Ahjumma made really nice kimchi stew for breakfast with rice and a great banchan of soy sauce quail eggs to sweet anchovies. No bidet too and it's pricey for a night though. Don't forget to try the traditional bingsu with roasted red dates and red beans where goblin had a scene filmed here too. This shop is at the road entrance to bukchon sosunjae guesthouse. - Deanosaur89Edmonton, Canada8,617 contributionsVery Nice Area to Hang OutWe enjoyed our time in this area and it can easily be made as part of a walk in Seoul being surrounded by popular areas and palaces. There are places to rent Hanboks and lots of little cafes and shops around the edges. We found a nice shop that sold postcards and got to meet the artist too! We got a great view of the city including the Seoul Tower and palace areas from the top down the alleys. It wasn't too busy on a Monday when we went and that could be that on Mondays/Tuesdays some of the nearby palaces are closed. We spent about two hours walking around taking photos and popping into shops and could spend more if it was warmer. The closest metro is Anguk Station and there are quite a few busses that frequent the area. There are quite a few signs and directional posts too. No es céntrico, pero se llega fácil en transporte público (el sistema de transporte público en Seúl es impresionantemente bueno). // Nice neighborhood for a walk. - Ben FBloomington, Indiana1,818 contributionsCharming and HistoricMy Korean friend and I met up in Bukchon Hanok Village to start our Seoul hangout, and I don’t think we could’ve decided upon a better starting point for our adventure. The narrow, steep, curvy streets of the village that wind around ancient Korean houses and shops are an absolute pleasure to get lost in. It’s the best “maze” I’ve ever done, if you will! The neighborhood is extremely walkable and obviously very safe. Definitely pass through en route to destinations like Gyeongbokgung Palace, which is very near. Take your time, though—there are so many boutiques, cafes, and photo ops to absorb. You could legitimately spend more than a day here and still not have touched everything. My friend, who’s lived in Seoul almost her entire life, even had no clue where we were a lot of the time! Many parts were new to her as well. On your trip to Seoul, prioritize at least a day to strolling Bukchon Hanok Village. There will be no regrets!Visited December 2023Travelled soloWritten 11 March 2024
- msnakimSingapore2,690 contributionsAmazing Views at SunsetWe took a cab to Bukchon Hanok Village, alighting near the 5th view, before sunset. Many tourists had the same idea and the place was abuzz! Nevertheless, with a little patience, it was not hard to take selfies near the iconic buildings and at the 6th and 7th view. Wait for sunset at the 7th view. It is magical!Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 16 March 2024
- ajbtravelstheworldMelbourne, Australia12 contributionsOne of the best experiences in Seoul!I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about visiting Bukchon Hanok Village as I thought it's either going to be wonderful or 100% touristy... and it exceeded all expectations! It felt SO local with most houses still privately lived in. The most beautiful architecture, incredible views of the city, boutique shops and walking distance to everything else - it was a really special moment and highly recc. you visit. There is a cafe at the very top where you can buy a tea and see views of the whole city - best!Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 26 March 2024
- NICHOLAS TDubai, United Arab Emirates10,326 contributionsStunning historic SeoulThis is a must visit in Seoul. There are streets and streets of beautiful old buildings, just a relatively short distance from downtown Seoul. There are also cool cafes in abundance and lots of great views back to the towers if central Seoul. It does get extremely busy so an early visit is recommended, although a lot of the cafes do not open until after 10am.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 April 2024

The walk around the village itself is very short. Interesting enough these are houses where people actually live in so there are many signs to be quiet. Before reaching the village, which is walkable from the Gyeoungbokgung Palace, there are many restaurants, shops and coffee shops so it's quite a nice strollVisited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 9 April 2024

This is a must go place if you are visit Seoul.
Pls your trip with Gyeongbukgong bcoz is a walking distance between this 2 place.
I will suggest u rent a hanbok(korean traditional attire) and travel around between this two place. so u can snap picture for your memory.
U get free to walk in without buying a ticket to enter the palace. Just walk in.
You can bargain for hour of hanbok rental with them, i got mine same price for 5hours with price of 1 hour but this i think depends on the time u visit. get your luck
I come across to another place call Ikseondong hanuk village at another part of seoul. Worth to give a visit and do check it out if u have time, especially those like to play IG. Lot of beautiful cafe hidden inside a valley. Late evening is recommended bcoz is beautiful and every part of it is instagramable.

This is one of the best area's to stroll through while getting a feel of the old city. The village is basically made up of Hanoks (traditional Korean houses) and little food stalls and restaurants. We enjoyed discovering this little gem by lazily walking through different by lanes.

I first got so lost trying to find a certain restaurant (turns out it was closed), but once you let go and just wander wherever you want, you'll be fine. Walkable distance from the Gyeongbukgong Palace. Lots of cute traditional shops and cool eateries. Be prepared to trek up and down the hills. Be respectful of people's homes of course.

I was slightly underwhelmed with this. It lacked character like traditional villages I have seen. The setting was stunning as were the houses. Very pretty. Clean and nice to walk around. Suggest early morning as it is quiet and perfect for photography. It just lacked atmosphere and felt lifeless and isolated. It was nice and yes I would recommend going. I didn't spend too long. Be quiet when walking around. You need to talk in whispers as residents do live there and we need to be respectful of this.

This is a residential neighborhood with lots of tourists roaming through it. The traditional homes are beautiful, but many residents had signs asking people to not enter their doorways, to not knock, to speak quietly, etc. It was clear that many residents don’t like being inundated with tourists. We did stumble across a great little place called The Rainbow Bar. Amazing fruit kabobs and fresh fruit drinks:)

I visited Bukchon around early summer last year. Bukchon is famous for its traditional hanok that has maintained the view of Joseon. I experienced the life of Joseon wearing Hanbok and drinking Korean traditional tea in this place. It's hard to walk here because there are many uphill paths. But if you go up and look down, there's a wonderful view waiting. What's more, you can be a model in Bukchon-gil no matter how you take pictures. I think if you don't have enough time, it's well worth visiting just by looking at the scenery. If you want to feel the beautiful traditions of South Korea, I recommend Bukchon. The thing to be careful about is that it's a place where people live, so you have to talk quietly.

The houses are very nice. Nice place to take a stroll although a bit tiring. It would be nice to go there wearing Hanbok if you love taking pictures. Try not to make much noise because there are people residing in the area.

Hello! I’m traveling next April and I’ll be having a 15 hour layover in korea! I’m wondering if anyone knows the souvenir shop hours? Thank you :)
Written 18 November 2019
It might depend on whether it is a weekday or weekend. Seems that on Saturday and Sunday when I was there that shops in this village area were generally opening around 10am and closing around 9pm. Isadong area was about the same. Be aware that the best way to get to and from the airport is the buses. Bus 6011 goes to Angkuk subway station which is near both the Hanok Village and Isadong. The ride takes about 1hr15mins. Be careful to ask the driver exactly where to get off. They don’t stop at every indicated stop, so counting the number of times the bus stops won’t help. Allow plenty of time to get back to the airport. It’s huge and can take more than an hour to get through customs and immigration. Bus costs 10,000 won. Get a ticket at the airport for the way into the city. Pay cash on the bus for the way back. Make sure you know where the stop is to catch it on the the way back. They run frequently - about every 15 minutes. Have fun!

There's a map, you can get it at the Bukchon Traditional Culture Center (Gyedong-gil 37, just south of Bkchon-ro-4-gil, other side of the street from Hyundai HQ Building), "Bukchon Wanderings". It's well done and the photo sites are well marked on the map.

Dear Traveller,
we were there late morning, so I cannot really answer your question about early morning food.
However, during late morning, you can also get street food such as grilled octopus tentacles.
