- msnakimSingapore2,690 contributionsMarket Tour for Cooking ClassOur cooking class (cooKorean) brought us to the market as part of the experience. We liked it here, as you can see this is very residential area and frequented by locals (not tourists). The prices were affordable and there is a large variety of meats, vegetables and cooked food. Really wanted to try the kalguksu, but we were short of time. Next time perhaps.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 15 March 2024
- Lin WSingapore, Singapore129 contributionsGood local marketForget the busy and crowded Gwangjang market. Mangwon market is the trend now. I grabbed my breakfast and dinner here for 3 days. The food here is cheaper than Gwangjang market and owner are more friendly. Though choices might be smaller but it is better to be local than tourist market. Long operating hours so you cna always pop in for some food.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 21 April 2024
- Su GSimsbury, Connecticut105 contributionsBest street food in SeoulLots to see and lots to eat. Very inexpensive. All the street food you want to try is there. Fruit there is inexpensive compared to grocery stores, you have to have the strawberries, its on another level. Must try the chicken and korean doughnuts. Don't skip the stands leading to the market. Also World Cup market is right next to it as well.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 May 2024

Stopped at Mangwon market on a bike tour. A very interesting insight into how local Korean people live. The food was delicious and their speciality is fried chicken although they do have stalls for all manner of different types of food. It’s relatively inexpensive but I would recommend trying the spicy chicken before you buy a box as it is HOT!!

We went here on Monday, 24 Dec 2018. It is difficult to find this market. We have to walk about 10min from mangwon station and there is no sign to this market from mangwon exit. We have to ask several person to find this market. Just a local traditional market with limited foods. 3 Odeng = 2000 won ( cheaper than odeng in myeongdong @ 2000 won )

Interesting traditional Korean marketplace easily accessible by metro. This place has lots of delicious snacks and street food and you can see stalls selling hugh and tiny reddish, hugh cabbage and big red apples, etc.
Worth a visit 😊

A traditional market near Mangwon Station. Good to visit.
- Featured by media several times. This is popular even locating in a residential area.
- This is quite away from other touristic areas. But, we saw some foreign tourists.
- Very huge. The market continues even outside the arcade. Also, Mangwondong Worldcup Market is right across the road.
- Various places to try street foods and they are affordable. If you don't know what to try, have some at crowded places.

Walk within 5-10 minutes from subway station to this market and it's easy to find using Naver maps. During walks, there are some shop sell fruits or local food and products. Inside the market, there are stall who sell raw meat, vegetables, banchan (korean side dish), local food snack shop, etc.. well, it's a traditional market and you can find anything.
I bought strawberry for 3000 Won (big pack, 24 pcs). Strawberry is big and very sweet. I eat famous kalguksu (noodles with broth soup) which cost me 3500 Won with a very big portion. The restaurant is not too big that I have to queue for 5-8 minutes and 1 person 1 order. You can't share the meals even though it's very big for my size.
I bought odeng (fish cake) for 2000 Won 3 pcs and it's delicious also thick (not like the one I eat in Hongdae). Very chewy. I also bought rice with red bean which is very good also.
Oh my ... I do have a larger stomach so I can eat all of the food here ... hahahaha...

Although I love the Gwangjang Market, it is extremely busy and tourists tend to make walking through very difficult. This market has delicious food for much better prices. Short rib patties, mandu, famous fried chicken, croquettes, hotteok, fermented stingray, kalguksu and so much more ready-made food. There is even an Isaac's Toast without the busy line. He location is so good if you are near the world cup stadium or Hongdae area. Much better choice for those serious about the food scene!

Rather unusual name for a traditional local market ie Mangwondong Worldcup market. Where is the link to Worldcup? Anyway what is found here generally is similar to other local markets. Fresh & cooked food, groceries, vegs, etc, etc.

I love the array of food here. Warm, filling, satisfying. There is one lady selling octopus at the very end of the market (south area i think) is so nice to us. She should earn a credit

The market is a local community asset that the residents support in order to sustain it.
It was good to visit such a market rather than only see a market aimed at tourists.

Hi! Just wondering if anyone knows the general operating hours of the Mangwon Market? Haven't been able to find any reliable information online...
Written 13 August 2018
It’s very much a locals market so the opening and closing times are probably known by the people that use it but not written down. We were there at around 7.30pm and the stalls didn’t look like they were closing any time soon. There are fish stalls so I presume they’ll be open fairly early so the local people can get what they need. I hope that helps in some way.
