You can enter Pantheon if go down by the serpentine from mountain Mtatsminda, or rise up by the funiculars.
Here are the church and the graves of the famous Georgians, also the writer Griboyedov and his wife.
Note, all inscriptions are made in Georgian.
Also, here is a fantastic view of Tbilisi.

This time we decided to climb Mtatsminda on foot. But we only had enough to reach the Pantheon😂. That's good. Of course, the inspection of this place turned out to be very quick and not thorough, since I was with a small child. I really want to visit here again and examine everything thoroughly☝️.

When visiting the Mtatsminda Pantheon recently we were amazed at how quiet and peaceful it felt even being in the city. Lots of beautiful views, great place to walk around and many famous Georgians are buried here and it is a lovely resting place. Take your time here and enjoy.

Mtatsminda Pantheon is actually a necropolis sitting half way on funicular way on Holy Mountain. Pantheon is located inside the church yard of St. David monastery. The Monastery itself is remarkable place in Tbilisi. As we were told the oldest part of the monastery was founded in 6th century by St. David. His cell dated back in 6 century with holy water spring inside has survived and there is a small chapel covering now the cell. There are several holy springs in the monastery. The church itself, Mamadaviti, is rather small but impressive building with gorgeous spiritual interior. If you wish you can leave your donations either to people in need near the sacred placed or to the monastery / church itself, not mandatory but will be appreciated. The cemetery - necropolis - is known as place where prominent Georgian celebrities were buried. The first prominent historical personality who was first buried here was Alexander Griboedov and his spouse - Nino Chavchavadze, daughter of Georgian Kniaz (Prince) and poet Alexander Chavchavadze. The Theater of Griboedov in Tbilisi celebrates its 170th anniversary this year. You can take funicular to mid-station and hop off from it on either way to/from Mtatsminda Park, or you can walk up/down the road - uphill from Kakabadze Str, rather tough physical exercise if walking. If you continue from mid-station of funicular towards the top of Holy Mountain you should visit Mtatsminda recreations park with TV tower - both places open fantastic view. Except funicular there is no other public transport to Pantheon and church, but there is an asphalted road that leads into the monastery entrance.

This is a beautiful location and the cable car ride there is great (caution: it's a bit of a hike from the cable car stop). Views are spectacular, and I'm going to say even better than from the top of the funicular.
HOWEVER, the poets and artists buried there are national figures of Georgia and therefore--look up who is there first, especially if you're unaware of Georgian literature or cannot read Georgian. Otherwise, it's not as interesting.
Georgians will assume everyone knows the individuals buried there, but many are pretty obscure to westerners. Regardless- a good place to check out.

Use the rope railway middle stop, stroll downhill via easy pass and discover the rocky volcanic corner of beautiful setting. The spectacular panoramic view of Tbilisi opens from here. The sculptures, church, bell tower, grotto, chapel and the carved tombstones look as the museum under the open area.

This is around St. David’s Church "Mamadaviti" church where significant Georgians are buried. So yes, it's really a church and graveyard. A peaceful area with stunning views of the city as with the top station of the Funicular which is probably got you here. But it is of limited interest if you are not Georgian and would automatically know the people buried here and their stories. It would be enhanced greatly with a small board with a map of the graves with English, OK and Russian, explanation of the people buried here and their roles in Georgian life/history that earned them the honour of this burial place

We took a taxi due to the heat. The driver managed to get within 50 metres. The views over the city are great. There was no one there except a priest who helpfully answered our question (in French). He showed us the grave of Stalin's mother and also unlocked a tiny chapel to show us the cave of St David which is full of water. It's a real surprise. You can even drink the water. I've attached photos of the statue on the grave and the tiny chapel. There were 3 churches in total, one was locked. There's a gift shop nearby that sells water. You can also get there by funicular.

It is quiet and beautiful place, where was buried mother of famous Soviet dictator of Georgian origin - Stalin, as well as Griboedov and other famous people. Take your book, Kindle or tablet and find a afternoon shadow in any of benches.
By the way, you can reach this place by walking from Mtatsminda Park or taking funicular to Panteon Station.
There is also a beautiful view over the city.

Pantheon is 15-20 minutes ride through the busy streets. Once at the top, its scenic view of TBILISI (must watch) & other side are the mountains. It is very calm & has sculptures of famous poets & writers. An church is also present at the top. The walkway is steep & paved interlock uphill. There is a walkway connecting the first station of funicular to the pantheon. So I suggest to go to the funicular first, while coming back go to the first station & walk all the way down after visiting the Pantheon.

You can walk or take a taxi. It's a really difficult walk, so I wouldn't recommend doing this with children or if you have a heart condition! If you like hiking and are generally fit, then the walk is invigorating!!

The name Mtatsminda derived from Atoni St. mountain in the 10th century, at the same time the Mtatsminda mountain is called ‘Mamadaviti’ due to the legend saying that St. Father Davit Garejeli lived in the cave of this mountain in the 6th century. On the very place a church was founded in the 10th century that was already functionless as a church in 13th and 14th centuries, but in 1542 a Virgin Mary cloister was restored on the place of the old church by the leadership of the brothers Nikoloz and Davit Gabashvili. In the 18th century the church was functionless and the damaged buildings were gradually being ruined.
