You need a card to travel in the metro, which lies very deep under ground. The elevators are quite long up again, I guess because Tbilisi has a lot of difference in elevation.

A very good metro/subway system that is easy to use and relatively cheap. It costs 0.5 GEL lari per trip regardless of how many stops you take. Also, the fist hour and half is free no matter how many times you scan the card in and out stations. I must say the stairs going down was the longest i've had... More

This place has a very cheap old system in place. Goes to most of the places that you can then connect with taxi or mini bus/walk quite easily. Little tricky if you don't have a subway map on you though. It is still clean and feels safe with security guards on platforms. Can't grumble when a trip costs 0.5 lari... More

If you want to have a taste of soviet (communists) architecture, this is the place to go. The trains are old, the stations are dark and the stairs are long. Really, really long.

The metro build during the Soviet era is still reliable, clean and efficient. Buy a card for 2 GEL and top up with credit for cheap travel around the city. This is a well maintained metro and some renovations ongoing. Greta for tourists on a budget and wanting to avoid the traffic

Loved the tunnels, so deep, and the escalators super fast. It was tricky to keep your balance as the first time users. The metro was clean and super fast. It was a great experience

Just like moscow the metro lines are suprisingly so deep down in the ground. Actually it crosses over river in tbilisi. I think we were went down on escalator about 3 minutes. Best way to access the city centre The railway tunnels in the station smell wastewater due to the depth of the facility.

Average, too noisy. Like a normal train in a tunnel. Needs to be upgraded. Looks very shady. Cost very nominal

it was really funny and interesting. the speed of the escalator was fast and need to be careful, also the light was not appropriate. it was really one of the oldest subways ever. but it was fun.

Efficient, outdated but fairly cheap (we bought the transport cards and every single trip cost 1 GEL) though the experience riding the trains was surreal. I felt as though we'd never really left the Soviet era as we rode the long, long escalators made worse yet in winter during rush hour when the scowling hordes of people rushed past us... More
