Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Not much to see appart from the crocodile and the stories surrounding them. The Hotel President in Yamoussoukro is a nice place to stay. The Basilique is a must see, especially the weeping virgin, and climb up to the higher levels, beautiful view of the surroundings

We wanted to see those big crocs, especially handpicked for their viciousness on the orders of the late president. Those crocs have already eaten once the guy who was in charge of feeding them, and so the "ceremonial feeding", that occurred every day at 5 pm is not conducted any more.
According to the guy who is currently in charge - Jean-Luc phone number 08149458 - the crocs are fed only twice a month, and the rest of the time they live on the fish in the lake. However, if you contact him, he will arrange a private feeding session for you at the price of the chickens you wish to buy (he will himself fetch the chickens for you from the market). These sessions are conducted usually in the morning around 10 am. It is amazing to see dozens of crocs - males and females, coming out from the lake at the sound of the chicken. Though Jean-Luc said they can survive without food for a long time, they seemed to be very very hungry and fought for the served chicken. The place is wide and spacious, the lake/moat is huge and it almost seems as if they live in nature and not in captivity. A mesmerizing and somber sight,

We drove around the whole palace without seeing much but still, the kids loved to watch the crocodiles in front of the entrance and my son named the road beside "the zombie apocalypse road"...

Former president built this palace at his birth place and surrounded it with lakes crocodile infested. Besides Cathedral this is the only thing worth mentioning in this capital.

Houphouet Boigny's legacy is an amazing one. The home of this former president leaves one speechless when you consider all the thinking that went into what he did. However, visits are by special arrangement because the family wants privacy. Would be a great tourist site if opened to the public.

The money gets spent where the current president lives. Former presidents have made Yamoussoukro their home, but currently the money is not being spent here.... The lakes were dirty and the former glory days passed. You can still see a croc among the plastic waste. Shame really.

The palace itself is off limits to the public, with the foot bridges barricaded and no other access to the grounds unless you want to encounter a croc fest. Along the promenade road gives plenty of sightings of at least 30+ crocs all different sizes. Our guide told us there are well over 100 lurking in the waters that you may not be able to see. Watching them stationary can get boring, but we were lucky with a few making their way towards the marsh area probably getting ready for eating time.
Definitely not worth coming to Yam just to see this, but being a free attraction and only a 5 minute drive from the Basilica, mosque etc, then makes it worthwhile...

This is, apart from the basilica, the only "landmark" to see, so everyone goes there.
The crocodile lakes are a strange thing to still be kept that way, but apart from that, there is not much time needed here.....
