We stopped off here after an all-day tour of Yangon and ferry ride across to Dala and a much needed respite from the heat. The cold coffee drinks were a wonderful treat. Service was a bit slow (though the place was not crowded). But still a pleasant stop. Take a few minutes to look at the old photos hanging in the main hall. We admired the interior design (or redesign) of the hotel. Lovely setting.

This is a great place for a respite from the heat. For a mid-day break, try one of their in-house classic cocktails. The Strand Sour was refreshing, and a great choice with the blistering heat. The waiters were polite, although it can be difficult to catch their attention at times. The complimentary nuts were very tasty.

After renovation the bar is totally ruined. Earlier it was one of the most classic bar in South East Asia and Yangon. Now the new interior looks very cheap with plastic diamonds and bright blue satin. Earlier this classical bar was really cosy. You could almost see the famous guests from by gone era enjoying their cigars and cold drinks.
This new set up is far from that atmosphere. Tacky and tasteless are the words best to describe the new interior.

Great cocktails and happy hour. Service delightful and surroundings fantastic. Rum sours very good and Blanc de Blanc happy hour sparkling wine excellent too.

Great colonial bar within the wonderful strand hotel, also had a pool table tucked away around the back. Lovely decor, great cocktails and service, one of the best bars in Yangon

If you are fond of Colonial architecture and recreating the feel of the Raj, then spend an evening at this Bar. Named after the founder of the hotel, a must visit!

This is a bar that is a compulsory stop for those who wish to step back in time. Sitting here, you can only envision the patrons doing the same during the colonial period. Is that Orson Wells sitting at the bar? Or Rudyard Kipling? Or Noel Coward? Burma was a different land in those days, but remains one of the most intriguing, mysterious and lovely countries to visit in southeast Asia. As is this bar. Waiter Tin Moe Lin was very friendly and helped pass the time with some friendly conversation. A great visit.

A lovely little bar to sit and rest.
After a hot day there is nothing better than having a cold beer in a delightfully cool bar.
The complementary nuts were also very welcome.
Prices are standard for the hotels in Yangon and I paid $4 for a small local beer.

Georgeous colonial interior and superb wait staff who were friendly, attentive and unobtrusive. The cocktails were well priced at $7 each, which is on par with most other upscale bars in Yangon. Same vibe as Raffles in Singapore but hell of a lot cheaper.The quality of the drinks were impressive and the tasty little snacks that came free with the drinks were very welcome.
