it was fun to go to the island and interesting to see all the locals that come to worship. I would have liked to have more time to visit the shops on the mainland for photos ie of dried fish and other things found only in Burma

Jan 15 We took a day trip to a nearby town of Thanlyin. We were hoping a Thaipusam Festival would be happening but must have miscalculated. After seeing Shewedagon in Yangon yesterday, all other pagodas pale in comparison. It wasn't worth it for most of us to take off our shoes and socks and enter.

At Kyaik-Khauk Pagoda the views are just magnificent. It was quiet and serene with very few people during the week.

Although travelling to the Kyaik Khauk Pagoda requires some planning and might not suit the short term Myanmar tourist, the travel to Thanlyin is well worth the effort. The Pagoda is said to be over 2,000 years old, similar to Shwedagon with many smaller stupas surrounding the base. It sits upon a small hill and there is an elevator available... More

Few people around if you go during the day midweek. Nice views of the Yangon skyline in the distance. An impressive pagoda though not as large as Shwedagon. If you're out in the Thanlyin area, be sure to pass by.

It's a nice pagoda that resembles the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon. It was very quiet when we went there, barely any locals paying respect. It also has a good viewdeck and in clear days, you can see the Shwedagon Pagoda and the Yangon Skyline. It was cloudy when we were there so there was nothing else really to see. Ok... More

We visited there last year december and very nice place. We can see different small pagodas and golden Buddha images. It take about 40 minute drive by Car from Yangon. You can get there by Taxi (or) private Car.

This pagoda is located on the small Island in the middle of the river where larger amounts of big fish are felt by the Pilgrims with Popcorn or Bread. What an opportunity to see the countryside around Yangon!
