Nice architecture which is worth a visit. Lively atmosphere and stalls offering a good variety of items. However seems visited more by tourists than by locals.

This market is a very genuine Asian market. Many locally made items rather than the same “ Made in China” stuff. Loved the local handicrafts and textiles.

This market mostly hosts Jewelry and fabrics. It is not your typical main market in a southeast asia market. Filled with mostly tourists and people who are shopping for specific goods. If you are looking for a market place for locals and everyday life, head...More

Shops selling jade and other gems and ALOT of fabric shops! If you need fabric - come to this market! There were also a ton of local artists selling beautiful artwork, definitely worth my hour or so wandering around. My favorite shop and where I...More

The main row of this market would be lined up with the Myanmar germs gold shops. But venture further into the small lanes and shops and you will find all the traditional Myanmar souvenirs and other things which you would definitely like. Unless you really...More

Over the years of my southeast Asia travels I saw such markets in Saigon, Phnom Penh, Bangkok and now here in Yangon. They all look alike, they're huge, centrally located in the very city center and offer everything you could think of. This Yangon's is...More

The market is not very large compared to similar market in other Southeast Asian cities. Myanmar people are generally very clam and kind and none of the shops are hard selling as we would imagine. We were looking for some scandal wood sculptures but couldn't...More

Unlike other local markets in the region, this is well-organised, but focus appears to be mostly on semi-precious stones, lungis, handicrafts etc. May be a good idea to walk through in an organised manner. Make sure to compare prices before making any purchase!

Nice market, you could spend hours wandering through narrow 'streets' of the market. Bargaining is required

Out of my experience I would say, it will be closed as most of the city/daily life gets to standstill during Thingyan. It's the same in the city, where almost ALL shops are closed. But this answer is not 100% updated. . .
