While the entry fee is a bit steep at 6,00p kyat per person, this is definitely an important temple for local people. The golden stupa is impressive and the internal museum is a very interesting feature. The place was very crowded when we there and preparations were under way for a big festival it seemed. Its quite a large complex with various things to see, including a large brass Buddha in a nearby mirrored hall that has been returned to Myanmar by the British. The immediate local neighborhood is worth exploring too, especially the religious souvenir market across from the main entrance.

Nicer than Sule and around the same price to visit. Check in people were also very pleasant and cost included a free cold water. A lot of locals tend to visit to pray so it has a relaxing vibe without being pushy. I would recommend if you have the time to kill.

Some of the countless Pagodas in Yangon. Amazing size but currently in renovation, simply the very best component of the Pagoda is shown (not covered by scaffoldings). Apart from the main Pagoda, within the vicinity, you're about to discoverlook for statues of the people that have had a role in Buddhism. You will, additionally, discover people providing golden coconut and bananas to the Gods for Luck plus just in case they would like to feel a wish you're competent to check out among the temples within the vicinity and additionally create the wish you have. The vicinity likewise has an apartment complex where the Monks in Training and presently Monks live. It is remarkable to observe them in the house of theirs. The location opens at 9 am till 8 pm.

Didn't know what to expect until we went inside the pagoda. Gold-foiled plated walls, with rare and precious contributions from people on display. The interior is air-conditioned and thus not warm at all. Recommend to visit to appreciate all the art works.

It has been damaged during the war but rebuilt and now possible to admire. At the river side. It’s the only pagoda where one can go inside. Lots of gold, lots of items collected from the past (it’s a kind of a museum), many people praying. Really beautiful it see it all. Definitely a must-see.

Like the title says, special for Buddhists that queue up to make a wish when they donate to the statue with the ‘finger’, but not the appeal of other temples to me. If you like temples for aesthetic reasons this is not the place. If bayou come to pray I guess it is.

This pagoda is not as impressive as its more famous sister; but it’s still wonderful. What is also interesting is that you can go inside to see the internal structure, but also the museum collection of artifacts and some of the history of the pagoda. It is partly museum like but still an active complex.

This pagoda is beside the Botahtaung Jetty, which is where the Buddha's hair was landed. The pagoda is the giant reliquary for this sacred item. We visited the jetty, which is now full of tourist dinner cruise boats, but only had time for the outside of the pagoda.

The walk along the bustling streets from Chinatown through the Indian district, passing the old Strand Hotel takes you to this wondrous Pagoda! Passing through the gilded archway you are led to the great Pagoda which once inside, many jewels and antiquities of Burma’s Buddhist heritage await! The gilt casket which houses the relic of Lord Buddha is the first delight to come to.. from there the circular route around the inside of the Pagoda passes under intricate golden carvings above on the ceilings and adorning every wall.. in the cool inner sanctum a myriad of treasures are to be seen .. ancient statues and stupas, old texts and photographs, even oddly enough, a very old Rangoon Turf Club silver trophy, a relic from Rangoon’s British Colonial days! Once outdoors again the surrounding temple grounds offer shady respite from the tropical sun by way of massive aged Bo trees.. planted long ago as a tribute to the tree under which the Buddha became enlightened. The famous turtle ponds were being renovated when we went there but I’m sure once the work on them is completely finished, that they will be a beautiful sight! There are shops ...selling all sorts of mementos.. glass mala beads, statues, medallions etc outside in the temple grounds and we found them to be much cheaper than anywhere else in town! We adored the Botahtaung Pagoda of Yangon!
