A chinese run store (like so many in Port Vila). The staff really struggled with the payments. The alcohol is ridiculously cheap, and perfumes standard duty free prices. Much better perfume range at Paris Duty Free, but Fung Kuei has a larger range of alcohol. All gets paid for and bagged up at the store and you collect at the boarding gate of your flight. This was not explained to us as we paid - they simply pushed our goods to the side in a big pile and we hoped for the best that they would be bagged correctly after we left (they were).

Port Vila Vanuatu is a wonderful Island experience.. Very casual and the locals are very friendly and helpful.. I spend five days, four nights there and the experience was positive. The team at Holiday Inn were most welcoming, the food both at the resort and eateries in town was well presented and generous.. The road surfaces are not what we in Australia are used to but nevertheless the locals make the best of what they have.. Definitely recommend Vanuatu..

Fung Kuei is an easy shop to find. It is bright yellow and on the harbour (left) side of the main street, furthest from the cruise terminal.
Our main interest was duty-free alcohol and our go-to gin is Bombay Sapphire. A good duty free price per litre is around $25 Australian but here we are only paid $16 dollars!! This was significantly cheaper than on the ship. A couple of hardened travellers on board had mentioned that Port Vila had the cheapest duty-free in the world and this seems quite possible. We did not price check other shops in favour but imagine they would be a competitive.
Incidentally we were somewhat astonished to see the same gin in Duty-Free shops in Fiji at over $100 Australian, or nearly twice what you would pay at Dan Murphys!
As others have noted there are a range of other products available but nothing particularly caught our attention.
After we finalised our sale we were advised that the bottles would be delivered to the ship for collection on disembarkation. This went very smoothly and we were saved having to carry them for the rest of our time in the port.
Enjoy - and if you find this review helpful your vote would be appreciated

Don't worry about remembering the name of this place, all the bus and taxi drivers know where to take you to buy your duty free grog.
Geared towards the Australian cruise ship passenger, you will find all prices are in AUD on the shelves when you visit. Not a huge range to choose from really, but definitely a better range than you'll find on P&O or Carnival.
Do check what is available on the ship before you visit here though. We have always found that if it is stocked on the ship, it is cheaper on the ship. Example: 1 litre Bacardi rum was AUD 13 at Fung Kuei, or 2 for AUD 19.95 on Carnival Spirit (1 for 10.95).
They also sell a range of other products that didn't appeal to us: perfumes, luggage, purses, handbags, china vases, watches etc etc etc. The shop appeared to have been expanded since our last visit in August 2012, so it looks like they are doing well. We priced Chanel perfumes at a shop further down the street (they don't stock Chanel at Fung Kuei) and it was much cheaper on the ship (AUD 109 on the ship vs AUD 140 in Port Vila).
Prices are supposed to be better if you pay in Vatu, as we did on our first visit. If you pay by credit card and you are off an Australian cruise ship you will be charged in AUD. We didn't bother to bring any Vatu with us this time around. All the taxi/bus drivers, main attractions, shops and markets appear to accept AUD and looking at the prices we paid, it wasn't worth bringing Vatu from home. If you were staying in Vanuatu for longer than a day, it may pay to exchange some AUD for Vatu at Goodies, as the rate is far better than any currency exchange in AUS.

Shopping for duty free in Port Vila you just cannot beat Fung Kuei for the 'absolute' best prices on alcohol. I won't go into detail about how much the 1 litre bottles of spirits were, but as a seasoned traveller I can say that they were bloody good compared to anywhere else we have been. Of course there are also the cigarettes, electronics, handbags, perfumes, jewelry at really good prices - and certainly the best prices. But the locals told us to shop here and we did and we weren't disappointed with our purchases. Lots of headaches to follow. Cheers.

Always come here when in Port Vila to purchase our duty free alcohol. Folklore has it that it's cheaper to purchase when the cruise ships are in dock - tested this theory and it is on a limited number of lines but it's cheap on any days to buy. Keep in mind that the only products to buy here are alcohol and cigarettes. Everything else looks cheap and is certainly knock offs. Example, last trip we purchased 4 x 1 litre bottles - Bundaberg rum, Canadian Club, Cointreau and Absolut Vodka and 500 ml of Gordon's Gin. Grand total of A$79.

The best shopping experience in the Pacific that gives you the best of modern duty free experience blended with more traditional Chinese store setup and experience. It's like being in two worlds under the same roof. And the staff are great led by the ever smiling and welcoming personality of its owner Mr. Fung Kuei himself. Don't let the building exterior looks deceive you. Plus great low prices for everything from alcohol, tobacco, electronics, branded sporting gear, branded watches, and much much more. The best deals in Port Vila can only be found at Fung Kuei's Duty Free Shop. If you haven't visited Fung Kuei while in Port Vila you haven't fully experienced Port Vila at all. You gotta visit It to believe it for yourself. Thumbs up from my experience.

I visited this shop when cruising on the P&O Pacific Jewel we docked at Port Vila and our tour guide said it was the best duty free in town. He was right I brought a litre of rum, a litre of vodka and a litre of bourbon for about $45 AUD. Bargain !!

Visited Vila whilst on a cruise April 2016. Found Fung Kuei Duty Free to be excellent value. Bundaberg Rum 1.25L bottle for only $16. It is over $50 in Australia. All their alcohol is similarly excellent value. Don't be mislead by the shops on the ship telling you early on in the cruise to buy early because they have limited supplies. This is designed to convince you to buy before you find out how good the Duty Free is in Vila.
When you purchase your Duty Free you don't even have to carry it around. Fung Kuei deliver it to the ship for you. Great service. Highly recommended.
Fung Kuei is located at the far end of the city centre. The most enjoyable way to get there from your cruise ship is by water taxi then a short walk.

Most people mention buying alcohol at fung Kuei, but can you buy brand name mobile phones?
Written 20 July 2019
We didn’t look at anything other than the duty free alcohol as we had only a very short time to browse/shop.

Can you purchase items to enjoy while staying in Port Vila or only on departure?
Written 16 May 2019
Because it is duty free, you can only have any alcohol purchased delivered to your point of departure (cruise ship/airport), however, cigarettes can be taken with you.
Written 21 May 2019
How old do you have to be to buy cigarettes, I've been asked to get some and some alcohol when I'm over there on a trip but I'm only 16. Will they still sell it to me or check my id??? Helpppp

I’m not sure but if you’re travelling from Australia I doubt that they will let you bring them into the country as you are underage so I would err on the side of caution and not purchase also you’ll need to declare them

Hello we are heading to vanuatu shortly and want to know if we are able to purchase alcohol from fung kuei when we land, to take with us to our hotel. Can we then purchase more before our flight to take home
Written 8 March 2017
Hi Anthony,
Thanks for your enquiry.
In regards to your question, you are able to purchase drinks for consumption on the island but the price will be the duty paid price which is dearer as it includes the taxes and duties applied to it.
You are able to purchase drinks at the duty free price which will then be sent to the airport where you can collect prior to boarding.
Thanks
Kevin
