Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited the Plage de la Baie des Citrons as part of our holiday.
It is in a very popular location, close to many Cafes and restaurants. The water is warm, divine. The beach is in pristine condition.

We walked here from Anse Vata beach where we were staying which was about a 20 minute walk. Lots of cafes and restaurants. Had a very average meal at the bewery bar. Beach looked sheltered and was certainly being well used but I perfer Anse Vata but if you had small children you might perfer this one. It's on the bus route so it's worth having a look.

Loved how calm this bay was even when there was a strong wind at Anse Vata beach next door. There is a roped off area here for swimming now, because of the shark warnings. You can’t swim at all at Anse Vata.

I am staying close to the beach. It's a nice beach but not what I expected. No crystal clear blue water. It's much the same as home. Lots of nice restaurants along the beach. Nice to walk. Pretty sunsets.

Patrolled beach, at least at weekends, and good people watching. Restaurants and cafes line the road behind, though seem quite expensive. Safe swimming (though fairly steep slope and plenty of trees for shade. Popular local beach.

We were staying opposite the bay, the beach has good facilities eg showers, toilets etc as well as lots of parking. The snorkelling to the west of the beach was some of the best we have done - straight out from the beach! Believe the eastern end was good too but we didn’t try there. Amazing variety of fish and corals.

We had only a day in Noumea (and my previous visit was 12 years ago) so we wandered both Lemon Bay and Anse Vata. We had debated which to swim and eat at in our short stay and if you have the same debate we would sum it up like this... Anse Vata for swimming (more sand) and Lemon Bay for more upmarket dining...

- Anse Vata has more sand for a swim, where Lemon Bay was more rocky and narrow. Both are fine, but I think we'd go Anse Vata next time.We enjoyed wandering Lemon Bay as it is so relaxed and french, where Anse Vata was more Gold Coast vibe, but we still liked the sandy beach at Anse Vata albeit less secluded.

-Lemon Bay has more upmarket restaurants (though still couldn't find anything typically French, the range was more like good steaks, crepe house - closest to typical french we saw, and your typical salad and seafood gourmet places, many places had lovely decor for a leisurely lunch in the sea breeze. Anse Vata had less expensive and less tasteful restaurants, but they looked busy and fresh (things like burgers... in fact a colourful tropical burger shop mid way along Anse Vata was overrun with locals which we thought was a good sign).

They are only a 10 minute walk between the two. There are regular tourist buses for a ride into town.

Hope that helps others plan.

During a day visit from a P&O cruise ship we did another half day tour before going to Lemon Bay. We used the HOHO bus to get to Lemon Bay Beach front.
One thing to keep in mind, we were in Noumea on a Saturday and just after 11:30 am were unable to get tickets from the local operator for their Hop On Hop Off bus because local custom is to rest between 11am and 1 pm, fortunately P&O cruise operators were able to sell us tickets.
Lemon Bay beach is a beautiful beach with fine sand, no need for reef shoes here, salty water and fresh water showers to wash the salt off on offer spaced out along the beach, so good!! Many trees along the beach provide shade and a buffer from the road way and shops.
Just across the road is many places to eat and or find a drink. We sampled the fine Number 1 beer at the brewery, a cold pint was very refreshing and the atmosphere is great.
When we were finished we jumped back on the HOHO bus that returned us back to the cruise terminal.
When in Noumea we used the local pacific francs, but most places seemed to take Aus Dollars if that was all you had.
Overall a really good experience!

There are many restaurants and bars over the road, so sometimes bit noisy for night time. However it’s very good place for morning walk with feeling breeze.
