We spent 7 days in Noumea and went into the Market on Thursday and then again on Sunday. Sundays market was probably twice the size of the Thursday market. Most people spoke English and were happy to talk with us about the origin of their products. Plenty of food and pastries to purchase and lots of local produce. We got... More

We took the choo choo train the first 2 hours we were here (day stop on a cruise) and came quite late in terms of the market as it closes around 12 so packing up was well under way when we got here, some already closed. Would have loved to see all the color and hustle and bustle of a... More

This market is a good market that is not "touristy" or tacky. Lots of variety and quality handmade items are available. Right near a fresh food market also. Definitely worth a look and it is right at one of the stops on the Hop on Hop off bus route. They accept local currency and also Us and Australian dollars. Not... More

We went to the market one morning. It was interesting, not exciting. We had been expecting (and hoping for) more food stalls - yes you could buy bread and even pancakes, but it was not a meal destination. We did like the guys playing and singing local music near the water.

The free parking within 200 metres is great. It is well organised with different products in each of about four buildings of traditional fare shape. Fish in one, fruit in another etc. Plenty of outdoor stalls too. If prices had been like Sydney, we would have bought heaps. Unfortunately, the value as at March 2017 meant that most items were... Really enjoyed wandering around this market with it's fresh fish, vegetables and fruit. Also a small number of food stalls and outside stalls selling souvenirs and clothing. I particularly enjoyed the music provided by a very talented young man playing keyboards and singing. One morning a young woman sang with him, she had a lovely voice. Thank you for the... More

Shop as the locals do, it is a bustling busy market with food as wel as clothes. Great for your day to day shopping. And an insight into local life.

Every time I visit Noumea I expect to be amazed but over the years I have noticed that it seems to be getting dirtier and more run down. The markets were average with nothing exceptional on hand to buy. Items were also pretty pricey. The townsite has sections of broken and uneven paving which was generally dirty. Graffiti on many...
