Description:

Port Moresby Nature Park (formerly the National Capital Botanical Gardens)...

Port Moresby Nature Park (formerly the National Capital Botanical Gardens) is PNG's leading recreational attraction combining botanical, zoological and cultural displays.

The park is home to over 250+ native animals including bird of paradise, tree-kangaroos, cassowaries, wallabies, snakes, crocodiles, hornbills and multiple parrot species. The grounds also offer a lush change from the hustle and bustle of Port Moresby City with the only rainforest tract within the Capital City.

Thousands of tropical plant species including palms, gingers and heliconias and native timber tree species are found within the grounds.

Facilities include cafe, souvenir shop, flower shop and arguably PNG's best children's playground.

The Nature Park can arrange transportation to/from hotels and airport to the Park and offer excellent guided tours of the Park (lasting 1.5Hrs).

A popular location on weekends for weddings and private picnic functions utilising the Nature Park's three large picnic areas.

This was a good half day visit. The lyre Bird enclosure that you can walk through was amazing. One could sit and listen to the different bird calls and watch the different birds flying around. Beautifully kept gardens. All birds and animals were in well kept enclosures. Staff were very friendly

I was in contact with the Nature Park well before we left for our cruise. The entire staff was helpful, efficient and a pleasure to work with. Michelle, Grace, Monpi all helped us put together our visit. Grace met us at the dock, our driver was courteous and safe, wish I could remember his name, took us to the park... More

The staff was great, helpful and ready! the bird aviary was very good and I befriended a parrot, that eventually wouldn't let go of me anymore. POM's climate is very dry though compared to the rest of PNG, and that seems to take a toll on the Park. My filming needs were better met at the Rainforest Habitat in Lae.... More

Thank you for taking the time to comment. I am guessing that you visited the Nature Park in our dry season as right now we are having a wonderful wet season and the park is exceptionally green with our creeks flowing full. This is a wonderful site to see following 2years of drought (or for a better term - 'lack... More

The park is a lovely respite from the city. The place is well tended and the flora and fauna something to behold. I take every visitor to comes to stay. And yes, one of the tips of the day is to take repellent as the mozzies like the rainforest atmosphere as well.

Thank you for your comments and tips to visiting the Nature Park. Whilst we regularly fog, particularly in the wet season, we do have mosquitos so thanks for letting others know. We do also sell mosquito spray for those that may have forgotten to bring it with them. We have a number of parrots within our walk through aviaries that... More

For Port Moresby residents, it's an excellent place to unwind for the weekend! I usually take my kids there most weekends, they never get tired of looking up into the canopy to see the fruit bats and love the cassowary walk! The recent renovations to the Gardens and new management have done wonders for it.The grounds are well kept and... More
