About
Port Moresby Nature Park is PNG's leading and international award-winning wildlife Park combining botanical, zoological and cultural experiences within its 30 acres. The park is home to over 550+ native animals including bird of paradise, tree-kangaroos, cassowaries, wallabies, reptiles and many, many parrot and other bird species. The grounds also offer a lush change from the hustle and bustle of Port Moresby City with the only rainforest tract within the Capital City. Facilities include cafe, souvenir shop and arguably PNG's best outdoors children's playground. The Nature Park can arrange transportation to/from hotels and airport and offers excellent guided tours of the Park (lasting 1.5hrs). The Park is PNG's only internationally welfare accredited wildlife park and is a member of the Zoo & Aquarium Association of Australasia.

Excellent nature park with exotic birds, reptiles and animals from PNG. Including the Bird of Paradise in aviary enclosures.

Beautiful, well-looked after grounds with helpful and informative staff who are maintaining COVID-safe practices. Being able to walk through avaries with multiple types of kumuls - Birds of Paradise, Queen Vic (and other tropical) Pigeons, multiple varieties of parrots and tree kangaroos is such a treat. It makes sense that this used to be the former Botanical Gardens site.

The cafe makes the best choc milkshake in POM and a good gift store with plants for sale as well as well-selected local artisans products, including pantings by dynasty local artist, Michael Kauage, and his 'Colour Me PNG' colouring-in book stocked.

This is my favourite place in POM - recommended highly to people living in POM and visitors solo or in groups.

The only park/forest type recreational facility within the city limits, the former botanical gardens offer rain forest, picknick areas as well as wildlife that has mostly been rescued, such as tree kangaroos and other endemic animals and birds. There are efforts underway to breed the endangered pig-nosed turtle. Some have already been released back into their natural habitats.

A must visit if you pass through Port Moresby.

Thanks for visiting the Nature Park. Our cafe is now run by Gateway Hotels & Apartments, one of Port Moresby's leading hotels so the cafe food quality and service is exceptionally high and enables the Park to also provide function catering for park events and customer venue hire bookings. I also love the cassowaries! We have one of the largest collections of cassowaries in the world. Many of these have been rescued from the Park after living in very poor conditions so to be able to walk around on the raised boardwalk, amongst our rainforest and see the cassowaries is pretty special. Thanks again for visiting and look forward to seeing you back soon.

Nature Park is and has been one of the oldest park in Port Moresby. It is also right next to Gerehu surbub. It caters for animals which are endangered. The environment is super warm with the birds chirping, while the snakes pill off their scaly skin. On one end, you have a room of snakes which are long and thick in width. You might just get chills from looking at it. It is suitable for everyone to visit, especially when going on a picnic or having a child's birthday party outdoor. There's no danger and children can go to and fro and see the animals in their cages.

Thank you for your comments. We love our reptile house! It is the only one in all of Papua New Guinea and is a great facility for educating people on how amazing and important PNG's reptiles are. There really is no other place in PNG to get close to reptiles so it is definitely a highlight for people at the Park. Thanks again for visiting. And we look forward to seeing you again at the Nature Park soon.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on TripAdvisor. Sorry to hear that you think the Park is looking a bit worn. 2020 has definitely been a challenging year for us all and COVID-19 restrictions have impacted our ability to have our full team at the Park. However we do have a strong maintenance and repairs schedule in Park so am confident that any issues you were concerned about have either been already addressed or will be done now that the team is all back at work. As a charity, your visit helps us to continue building the Park and keeping it up to international standards so thanks for visiting and supporting our cause.

We will continue to develop the Park as and when wonderful sponsors are able to support our efforts and we will continue to create new visitor events to encourage new and engaging events for our regular visitors. Thanks again for taking the time to comment and your support of the Nature Park.

A must do in Moresby. About 30mins drive from the CBD on the Sogeri Road.
The final resting place for over 3000 British and Anzac troops Plus Papua Niugineans kille in WWII. Some from as far away as Bougainville and New Britain. Some interred as recently as 2004. One Australian nurse and 2 VC's. Also the grave of? Flight Lt Jackson. (Jacksons Airport).
Beautifully landscaped grounds. Meticlously tended by 8 groundsmen. Head groundsman Nathan very helpful).

Visited this little park a few days ago as they were opening and had it to myself (except for keepers). It is very peaceful and cool under trees. The animals were all pretty active and I was able to get some good shots. All of the workers were helpful and friendly. Go!

Thank you for your wonderful comments on TripAdvisor. Great to hear that you were able to get some good photographs. Our animals are most active morning and late afternoon - outside of our peak hours which are in the middle of the day, and particularly over the weekend. Our staff are always happy to share the Nature Park with guests so I am glad to hear that you were happy with their service. Thank you once again for visiting Port Moresby Nature Park.
