About
Trekking Kokoda Trail with Adventure Kokoda – Adventure Kokoda is a specialist military history trekking company leading groups across the Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea. We follow the entire 138 km of the original wartime trail. We have the most professional and experienced trek leaders - our team has 160 years combined military experience. Over 7,000 people have trusted us to bring this historical and cultural journey to life, leading them safely across the Kokoda Trail and ensuring they have an unforgettable experience. We have led more than 600 expeditions safely across the trail over the past 30 years. We are the only Kokoda trekking company to provide for the welfare of our PNG guides and carriers by issuing them with sleeping bags, sleeping mats and a full trek uniform. We are the only trekking company that limits the maximum backpack weight for our guides and carriers to 18 kg which was the maximum weight allowed during the Kokoda campaign in 1942.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A meaningful trek with the fabulous David Sherry as Trek Leader. It's a physical and mental challenge and along the way David shares the war history along the trail. It's poignant that this campaign was instrumental in stopping the Japanese advance to the Australian mainland and yet the scale of the heroism is known by few in Australia. I would recommend the Adventure Kokoda tour to all Australians. I've taken my sons and I know it has left an indelible memory of what it means to be Australian.

The trip leaders Jake Leske and Brody Murray did a wonderful job getting us through what was no doubt the greatest physical challenge I’ve ever experienced, with constant rain, mud, landslides and dodgy creek crossings to overcome.

Such a rewarding experience. We were always in good hands and Adventure Kokoda have been doing this long enough now to have the process sorted. We knew months in advance what we needed to do to prepare and what equipment we needed to have. Our guide and PNG porters were exceptional. No matter how exhausting the walk we took time to learn about the villagers life and culture. Most importantly was the war history we were taught from our guide Peter and for us to honour our soldiers as we walked kept us going.
Beautiful creek crossings and scenery along the way. Dawn service at memorial at Isuava was moving.

We completed the Kokoda trail with trek leader Jake Leske and 2IC Brody Murray from 03/10/23 - 12/10/23. It was a fantastic adventure. Learned heaps about the battle history of Kokoda and would highly recommend the trek with Adventure Kokoda to anybody that is thinking about doing it. The porters are absolutely amazing and are with you every step of the journey. Good was good and the views are awesome. Do yourself a favour and book this trip of a lifetime!

The history, culture and views were incredible! It has helped me gain so much understanding and respect for our fallen soldiers, and I will continue to make them proud.

Everyone from the trek leaders to the support staff were incredibly. Trek leaders Dave sherry and Jake Leske are outstanding. Not only did they support us in the physical aspect of the track but also the mental and emotional. The experience they create by immersing you into the history and sacrifice of those before us is is truly life changing and is something that will be remembered forever .A must for all Australians and in my opinion Adventure Kokoda would be the only organisation to share that experience with . I cannot thank each and every individual associated enough they truly are amazing

No words can describe this amazing experience. Dave's knowledge of the history of the kokoda trail and his poems immersed us into the hardships the diggers faced. Jake's ongoing encouragement at low points was exactly what was needed to power on and get there. Dave and Jake never gave up on me when the going got tough and that truly made the difference between giving up and getting on with it.
The porters were completely respectful and encouraging. The work these men do for us was amazing and as a woman i never felt uncomfortable in the presence of the porters and guides. They truly are angels watching over our shoulders catching us before we fall. My porter truly did spoil me with making sure i had water at all times and making sure i didnt need for anything. The guides and porters were always good for a laugh or just a chat about their culture.
Highly reccomend Adventure Kokoda from the moment of booking Tracie was a wealth of knowledge and always had time to answer questions. Getting off the plane in PNG being met with friendly smiles of the adventure kokoda staff truly made for a relaxed and easy transition to the hotel. The food along the track was plentiful and we were never left hungry.
If I was ever to trek Kokoda again I would 100% go with Adventure Kokoda again. The extra day to explore plane wrecks was something I've not seen any other company offer and made for an amazing extra experience.

Absolutely loved the Adventure Kokoda 8 day history trek! I cannot thank our trek leader, PNG porters & all the Adventure Kokoda staff enough for making it such a fantastic experience.

Our leader Peter Morrison was so knowledgeable - he ensured we got a true understanding & appreciation of the conditions that were faced, the resilience shown, & mate-ships formed.

My PNG porter Rex was an absolute superstar - not only carrying my pack, but answering all my questions, educating me on his life, & encouraging me when things got really tough. Thanks Rex!!

The Kokoda track itself is epic - physically & emotionally challenging, but so rewarding and such an experience. I feel privileged to have almost made it and hope to get another chance to compete those last few days!

I was unfortunately forced off the track with 3 days left due to injury. However, from the moment it happened, I was in the best of hands. The PNG medic & porters swung into action, getting me safely down the mountain to our campsite for the night. Our trek leader, PNG representative & Aus-based AK staff ensured a medi-vac was arranged for the first available time. Choppered out safely, I was transported to the International Hospital by another AK staff member (Helen), who also stayed with me whilst I was seen by the Doctor. But it didn't end there, the AK Moresby based staff continued to check on me, looking after me while I was recovering (thanks again Helen & Donald!). Despite the pain I was in, I always felt like everything was 100% under control and I was cared for in the best possible manner.

Highly recommend Adventure Kokoda & hope the get another chance at those last 3 days in future!
