Small But Lovely
Dec. 2019
It was an excellent trip to Suriname last Dec. 2019. This little attraction caught my attention while bumming around the city of Paramaribo. The small zoo seems to be well kept and the few animals seemed to be well fed and taken cared of. I would recommend to give it a shot when visiting this jewel nation in the northern part of South America.

Used to be better
Sep. 2019 • Friends
The local zoo looks fine now but the thing is that used to be better in the sense that they had more animals with in the enclosure. And now there are less animals to a point it more looks like a petting zoo, the only improvement is that the zoo used to be dirty and now it looks better as in clean and a bit more organized and well kept.

Interesting, but funding needed
Aug. 2019 • Couples
Has some animals you rarely see in European zoos. Is a small place, unfortunately does it look like if the funding is needed to take care of cages.

Nice for short period
Apr. 2019 • Family
I was here with my 13 old son. It's a pity to see how run down some of the enclosures are (improvements seem to be in progress though, although slowly) but there are many awesome and interesting animals on display like the harpy eagle and several jaguars. The website is completely unhelpful - check on Facebook for anything going on at the zoo. Also, bring your own food because you cannot buy any there.

Small zoo with native animals
Jan. 2019 • Family
We were the only tourists when we visited the other day. There is a good variety of native animals on display, most with some room to move around in. The monkeys have the largest enclosure and were having fun swinging on the ropes. The jaguar enclosure should definitely be much larger to enable these majestic animals more room to run around. The animals all looked healthy and most were happy. There did not seem to be any animal feeding sessions or keep talks - something which I am used to in Western zoos. There should also be more information about the animals on their cages. The zoo could increase its income by selling postcards, soft toys, posters and other souvenirs. Good value for the entrance fee.

They do the best with the resources they have
Jan. 2019 • Family
If you're into zoos, especially those which haven't really been maintained due to lack of funding -- and which don't feature much wildlife -- you will love this place. The pakira were the highlights of the visit.

Travelling around the world on our yacht
Dec. 2018 • Couples
Coming from.South Africa , we are not a fan of zoo's at all. Limited amount of animals in the zoo , saying this they do look after and nice to see water bowls were all full. I have no idea why one would keep a std horse in a zoo? Sadly the horse was very thin. My highlight was watching the swinging monkeys at the left side of the zoo. Was great to see they have their own little ISLAND to play on. Saying all this , the park is a great morning outing if you have small kids .

A nice couple of hours
Nov. 2018 • Family
I am NOT a fan of zoos and have visited several in countries across the world and never like the vibe or the facilities for the animals. That said, I have children in my life that do! This was a nicer offering - spacious, the animals looked well cared for in the main. A nice variety and what was nice was that they have a big school group there playing on the huge play park which lightened the vibe hearing kids laughing and playing.

There isn’t much to do in Paramaribo so this is definitely worth a two hour window. Not far from the main city - was 15 SRD for a taxi

Interesting zoo
Feb. 2018 • Couples
This zoo is about 10-15 minutes drive from downtown Paramaribo, taxi fare is about $20 SRD, I was told that no buses go up to the zoo, the walk could be about 1/2 hour from Mac Donald's, the entrance fee is $25 SRD per adult, the zoo has mostly local animals, and some very interesting ones, the jaguar, jabiru bird, anteater, tapir and best of all some monkeys which are not caged, the zoo has a good collection of birds, the animals seems to be well taken care off in the circumstances, but what I found to be most interesting of all, is that there were wild monkeys visiting the zoo, you can see them on the trees, I would recommend visiting this zoo, its small but one thing for sure it has not taken away animals from all over the world from their natural habitat to put them up for the amusement of humans, this zoo sticks mostly to animals that are indigenous to Suriname, save about two or three species.

Room for improvement
Feb. 2018 • Couples
Went to the zoo, as wanted to see the giant anteater. I'm sure they do there best, with limited funding, but it was hard not to leave a little depressed. Some of the animals and there enclosures were miserable. Hopefully there are plans for improvement.
