We were from Canada and England and all drink El Dorado and were really anticipating this part of our trip and especially to show our children what one of Guyana's largest export brands is about. We have been on tours of other distilleries throughout the world - Bushmills in Ireland, Anheuser Busch in the U.S., Heineken in the Netherlands, Curacao... More

We went in a small group. There was a bit of delay due to late arrival of two other participants but once it got going the tour was excellent - smelly, noisy and up-close to the action. Truly historic and has the last two original Wooden Pot Stills in full operation in the world. The guide was excellent in explaining... More

We arranged for a tour for 5 of us two days before the tour. We arrived on time, checked in at security and waited for the guide and waited and waited. We called every 10 minutes and got a different reason for the delay and a much different status. After 30 minutes they said the guide was coming from Georgetown.... More

This tour is not to be missed. The history and size of this gritty facility is noteworthy. I enjoyed our tour guide but be prepared to not hear all of what he says....it is a loud distillery. The rum tasting after was the icing on the cake. Buy your 15 year old rum in duty free in the airport.....you will... More

I got a private tour to myself as I took the bus option from town and arrived by myself. It's very easy and very cheap as the bus drivers are happy to help you with which bus to take and where to get off. The tour was interesting if you like to find out about the distillation process and with... More

As other reviewers have said, book this yourself - the tour costs $3000GY and a taxi there and back is easy to arrange. Interesting tour and a knowledgeable guide Patrick

Interesting tour but do not go with any of the tour agencies who sell this tour for about 70 USD. The real price is 15 USD. Contact DDL through their website to make a reservation for the tour. Take mini-bus 42 from Stabroek market and get out at DDL sales (100 GYD one way), you can buy your ticket for... More

Yes, they really do use ancient wooden vats. Learning all about how rum happens was fascinating and the tasting at the end was quite enlightening.

We were promised a bottle of their rum after the interesting (but not exceptional) tour ot the facility. We complained! No luck! They told us that the offer (currently on their automated phone system) was no longer available. The next day we phoned that number again... NO CHANGE.. They were still looking for tourists to fleece. Typical of Guyana's so-called... More
