It was a joy to discover this museum that is located in a charming colonial building. There were some traffic noise but otherwise the only quiet museum I have found in Bogotá. Only a few visitors when I was there.
On display in the varies connected rooms were varies ceramics of Prehispanic origin from all over Colombia. As with Museo de Oro it is focused on one material, in this case, clay and all the materials produced with it: jugs, rollers, cups, figurines, stamps, urns etc. It is a rather classical exhibition (ie stuff behind glass and text telling where it is from and how old it is). But nice to see some archaeology that isn’t gold, but also more everyday objects.
The fee for entrance was only 4.000 COP for foreigners. And less for Colombians. The entrance is a blue door/gate with a metal detector. Both the security guard and the receptionist were very hospitable.

Gorgeous museum - called Muso. It must have had a revamp as looks quite different to many of the older photos here
It’s in a beautiful colonial house, very carefully conserved. There are very old wall paintings and decorations on the walls - so that the house is an object in its own right.
The museum has a lovely collection of precolombian ceramics, beautifully displayed with texts (in English and Spanish) projected on the walls.

I can only assume that the foundation has put in a lot of work since the last reviews, because I found this museum EXCELLENT.
It's located in a lovely old building, with a few rooms dedicated to the furniture and paintings of colonial Colombia, as well as original frescoes preserved throughout.
The main attraction is the huge collection of ceramic artefacts from the pre-colombian settlements around Bogota. The artefacts are presented clearly in cabinets, and there is plenty of natural and artificial light, there are heaps of big panels that give you detailed information about the cultures concerned- geographical and cultural information, which gives you a great background that is missing at, for example, the gold museum.
All of the panels concerning the artefacts have English translations.
Also, don't miss the special exhibitions on the ground floor - they are gorgeous, especially the multimedia exhibition dedicated to pre-colombian musical instruments and soundscapes.
There are a couple of cafes in this complex, and the staff are super nice. Well worth a visit.
PS it costs $4000 for adults/foreigners and they give a student discount.

This is a little visited gem in Bogota. It houses the art collection of the Banco Popular. The museum really needs to rename and rebrand itself since the collection is both pre-Columbian pottery and Spanish colonial art housed in a historically significant 17th century home.
The residence itself is worth the entire 3.000 entrance since this is the only home of this era open to the public in La Candelaria. Remains of the original mural paintings have been lovingly preserved throughout the entire building.
The pre-Columbian pottery is sensitively displayed in cases that don't detract from the architecture. Unfortunately, the display panels (which are also in English) never go beyond the macro level of info to relate to specific pieces that are on display. As a result, it's difficult to really appreciate these pieces beyond an aesthetic level.
There are several choice piece of Colonial art, making this museum a nice compliment to both the Gold Museum, National Museum and the Colonial Art Museum. The staff are super friendly.
Also recommend is the restaurant in the back of the building, Maria Tomasa, which features fish and other dishes from the Caribbean coast of Colombia. Plus it's the only place where you can view the monument and plaza of the Battle of Ayacucho, which is surrounded by government buildings and is closed to the public.

This is a Private Museum, with offered limited artifacts, none in English. The only redeeming factor is the internal Courtyard, where one can sit for a while.

I enjoyed walking around this beautiful building. Well worth a visit. The collection is interesting and we enjoyed the cool ambience of the cafeteria after the heat of the city.

It was in a lovely old building, and that in itself made the visit worth it. Also, they had explanations in English. I wasn't too impressed with the pottery, and I think the actual artifacts were more interesting in the National Museum.

This archeological museum, situated in the historical house of the Marques de San Jorge, in front of the Palace of San Carlos, Presidential House during the War of Independence until 1908 and then from 1954 until 1979, gives an idea of the precolombian history, going back 2000 years. Should be visited by everyone.
