Colombia's oldest museum holds a vast collection of archeological artifacts, as well as modern art. The building itself is interesting—it's a former prison and many of the galleries are inside former prison cells.

We enjoyed this museum very much but....we could not read any of the descriptions of the displays as only a very few things had included an English display. Of the 3 museums we saw in Bogota this was the only one with no English. I...More

This is a great museum for a chronological view of Colombian history. There is so much on display it becomes overwhelming and could be organized a little better. I understand that 'when in Rome...' but was sad not to be able to read more about...More

This probably is a rich and interesting place - it is certainly large and full of stuff - but the refusal to translate any of the information into English is appalling, unforgiveable and unbelievably annoying - I had no idea what I was looking at...More

Easy walk from La Candeleria straight up AC7. Good history lesson on Colombia starting with the early people. Not much in English but it's not hard to figure things out.

I went to this museum---and interesting building with a collection that tells a solid history of Colombia---but it would not have been a priority had I known more in advance.

Worth the visit if you are into museums. It's a great museum, probably the best in Colombia, well redone from a prison to the museum

Sometimes is kind of weary to think about going to a museum nearby.... but the experience was worth. Walking the different areas I got a clear picture about the Colombian history. That was very interesting, it was like history became real... Casi nunca pensamos en...More

Super museum, not allowed to take bags in so be prepared to leave them in a cloakroom. Allowed to take photos without flash. Interesting artefacts, good projects nicely presented - enjoyable visit.

The general entry ticket is: 4000 COP (1.3 USD), so it's a cheap museum to visit. Currently the temporary exhibit is a Middle Age exhibit. It was really, really good. The permanent exhibits deals with: the violent times in Colombia, a variety of art pieces,...More

Yes, it is. Visiting on working days is preferred than going on the weekends. You can visit after 10:00 a.m. And I believe they close at 4:00 p.m.
