Visiting this site right after coming down Mount Monserrate, it was seeing "another panorama" of the city somewhat different from that from the top of Monserrate (although both city views "to the west") especially I would say when it comes to the downtown high-rises (kind of a "stretch view" of them from here as opposed to a "cluster view" from Monserrate), and yes also in a full clear view is Monserrate at just slightly down below not too far away. As for the Virgin Statue (my third statue of the Virgin on a mountain top after the one on top of Cerro San Cristobal in Santiago & the one on top of El Panecillo Hill in Quito, all 3 more or less comparable in size), I would just say it's the base of the Statue which "leaves to desire" being just a small simple structure with the Statue placed on its flat rooftop (compared to the big cylindrical bases of the other two with also some elaborate displays inside) although yes that small structure is part of the larger building which is this santuario with its most memorable feature personally for me being these "red crosses" on the exteriors of the windows (the building itself closed to the public except for the small part on one side like a small church or a chapel where I went in and sat briefly). And also worthwhile while here is to go around to the back of the santuario building for some "mountain views" (to the north & at a relatively close distance).

So yes, should not be missed if you're (like me) fascinated by mountain-top statues & city viewpoints (and this likely being the "highest point" of Bogota!), the "major inconvenience" though is its remote location where really pretty much the only way to get to coming on your own is by taxi and for a round trip to take you back down the mountain afterward (which cost me a "somewhat excessive" amount of over 100,000 colombian pesos or about 40 US$ for the ride for about 20 minutes from the bottom of Mount Monserrate then about 45 minutes spent here followed by the ride back for about 15 minutes to barrio La Candelaria), and so actually I wasn't much surprised at this site being a very quiet one with really hardly any visitor (which was in a "total contrast" to what I'd just experienced on top of Monserrate).

The view, the undulating road, the flora, the quietness. We did not attend Montserrat for that reason- a. our limited interest in creed anthology and the crowds. We still view serenity as a serendipitous event in tourism. Without becoming didactic that is what has been lost through social media, nomadic events and so on. The views of the altiplanic lake which is the setting on the Bogota Savana, the depth of the field and the structure of this town offered excellent vistas. Now the surrounding structures and there state of being is another matter. A different form of poetry of neglect versus poetry of abuse.

We were fortunate to have a seasoned tour guide get us to Guadalupe. We skipped the 90-minute long tourist & local lines at Monserrate to find grander, higher up views in this beautiful location.

PROS: in my opinion, better views that Monserrate since it is higher up; less congested, beautiful views going up the mountain; expansive views. The virgin statues are delightful and the architecture is charming - and you get to see it all without being rushed.

CONS: it claims to be wheelchair accessible but you will either need to have a very strong assistant or you need to be a top-notch wheelchair user because the ramps are incredibly steep. Make sure to have scarves, hats, and a warm outfit and coat because when the wind blows, it will chill you to the bone. You must take private transport to make it uphill - not sure there is public transportation to it, but even if there was, I would encourage tourists to take a guide and private car as it can be a pretty isolated ride.

Overall, I felt that the mount was all my own when I got up there. The views are absolutely unforgettable. Bring a picnic basket (hot chocolate!) and rest up before making your way down.

This viewing point is an alternative to Mount Monserrate. It is accessible by cars (taxi will cost you 60,000 COP including waiting time). As oppose to Monserrate there are almost no people and you can take in the view quietly. Weather is tricky so when you see blue sky head up as viewing conditions can dramatically change very fast. Highly recommended..

We had a car and could drive up the mountain which takes about 20 minutes from downtown Bogotá. I'm not sure if a would recommend getting there in another way. The views of Bogotá are better than from Monserrate as it's a bit higher up. There are plenty of small food stalls if you get hungry. It's over 3000 meters and can get pretty cold so bring a jacket.

This is a place that is not commonly visited. most visitors go to "Monserrate" but this sanctuary has far better view. It is mostly an isolated area that you can get to by a public blue bus that usually goes there during weekends and holidays or by taxi but for foreigners it is better if you may get a guided visit. The architecture of the sanctuary and the statu are impresive so don't hesitate to pay a visit. Not only is less crowded than the other mountain but it is also higher. which will give you the sense of owning the landscape for you alone. As it is higher don't forget to bring your coat. When the rain or the wind strike it will chill you to the bones.

I highly recommend this trip on a clear day. It is cold for some people so be prepared. It was not a big issue for us, but it was for those that are from the tropic. Only private vehicles are allowed to go to the highest spot, then get ready to walk up the mountain. The locals called it a "hill" but it is a lot more than that.

The "Cerro the Guadalupe" is less known than Cerro de Monserrate and is more difficult to reach, but in my opinion absolutely worth it. The view was breathtaking and the peace and quiet we experienced there was a huge contrast with most touristic sites in Bogota. The chapel was under renovation during our visit but nonetheless we were happy we visited the Santuario de Guadalupe. We got there on a Monday afternoon right before a storm and the contrasts of the sky, the mist and all the green around added to the beautiful view.

I was not expecting to visit the Cerro de Guadalupe, but it turned out to be my favorite spot in Bogotá . You can see the entire city and also you have a great view of Montserrate (Lower than Guadalupe on the next mountain over). There is a cute little church that you can go to Into and look around, but the big draw is the statue Guadalupe.
Overall its very quiet. I was there on a Monday afternoon with great weather and there was only on other local family up at the top.
Just a note that you definitely need to drive up to the top. Most of the yellow taxis will NOT agree to take you to the top because of safety concerns and fear of destroying thier transmissions. At the bottom of the narrow road that takes you up to the peak, there is a historically, very dangerous barrio. They used to blockade the road and rob the drivers and passengers. However there is now police presence on decent.

About 1000m above Bogotá. Excellent view of the city and Monserate. Beautiful trip through forest to reach the sanctuary. Security around, so safe. We went on Sunday, Mass is celebrated.
