I went to see one of the famous local teams Millonarios in Estadio Nemesio Camacho (AKA: El Campin) in Bogota and bought a ticket just 1,5 hour before the game starts.

To find tickets you need to go the the Movistar Arena where you can buy tickets for events in the El Campin stadium and the Movistar Arena) at gate nr. 9.
English spoken and very friendly people. Be sure you have a working phone to receive your online ticket that's needed to enter the stadium.

The stadium is a bit outdated but offers a good view of the match. In the past, more than 60,000 people were allowed to enter the stadium, but due to safety concerns, nowadays about 35,000 visitors are allowed to enter El Campin.

The atmosphere in the stadium was great, lots of singing, blue fireworks and Millonarios banners. The people are very friendly and happy to chat or take a picture with the grinco at their stadium. This Colombian football club has gained a fan after this experience. Vamos Millonarios.

You get a good view from pretty much anywhere in the stadium, but the best are the seats on the Occidental side (west). When full, the atmosphere in football matches is great. For concerts, it is also nice. I went to see Coldplay there and it was perfect. Easily accesible by Transmilenio and SITP. You can buy tickets for matches and concerts over the internet, but you have to do it in advance especially for very popular concerts and important matches. There isn't a box office in the stadium, but there's one a couple of blocks away (Tu Boleta point).
Some things that needs improvement are signs inside the venue (I was a bit confused with where I had to go) and the bathrooms, which are a bit run down.

I'm not sure I'd call this a tourist attraction unless you want to see a game. This is the home stadium for local teams Millonarios and Santa Fe, plus for the Colombian national team. We went to see the Millonarios play. We had very good seats for about thirty dollars. The west side is considered the best place to sit. Tickets can be bought via Tuboleta both online and at various locations around the city (e.g. the Exito at Calle 53 & Carrera 13).

Check your ticket to see what entrance to use. The lines to get in were longest for the cheap seats. It looked like they didn't staff those entrances as well. Still I would recommend getting to the stadium at least 45 minutes before kick-off.

There was a very heavy police presence both inside and outside the stadium. It felt totally safe. But then we did leave at the 89th minute (Millonarios up 2-0) so got out ahead of the crowd.

They sell food and beverages inside. If it looks like rain buy a poncho outside. They don't sell them inside the stadium.

BTW, this is only the 7th largest stadium in Colombia. Five other cities have larger, including two in Cali. I wonder when Bogota will expand this.

I went to two Millonarios games here with some friends and many other foreigners staying in Bogotá had asked me "Is it safe for a gringo like me to go to a football game in Colombia?"
Of course is it. Its a really cool atmosphere at the games, full of music and laughter and fun. You might see the odd fight going on outside the stadium but obviously you don't get involved in that!

Tickets can be bought online or you can buy them from people on the street.

Security is buffed up. The police wear body armour, ride horses and carry shotguns. They are built like jugganauts!

You'll get frisked before going into the stadium, and obviously they won't let you bring alcohol or cigarettes in with you. And its a pretty thorough frisking so don't try hiding anything!

Its great, honestly. If you're in to football and you're in Bogotá then you should defintely go and see a match. But remember, this stadium serves as the home ground for both Millonarios and Santa Fe, so don't turn up to a Millonarios game wearing a Santa Fe jersey!

The stadium itself seems nice from the outside and reviews of people visiting for games seem good BUT attempting to coordinate a visit at any other time is not an easy thing. It took us a while to find the process which includes having to send an email to a government agency requesting a tour, which is then followed by a 15 day wait for a reply with details of available spots.

We were in Bogota for 10 days and were unable to visit.

I have visited other stadiums with just going there and paying for a tour, no problem. This one is not set up like that unfortunately.

Although Colombia hasnt had the best of the teams in the past few years, this stadium hosts the national teams games for the world cup.

We went to see one of the local pro teams, Millonarios. Finding tickets was a bit tricky, you would think they would sell them at the team store at the stadium, but they don't. I learned later many people buy tickets from offsite vendors, tubolleta or others. I finally found a ticket booth on game day across the street from the stadium on the south side. I knew if I asked for tickets, I'd have a bunch of questions about what section, what price, etc., and my Spanish is weak ... So used google translate to write out a note to hand to the ticket person saying I don't speak enough Spanish, but I needed two tickets in an assigned seating area, but we didn't need the most expensive ... he understood and said a bunch in Spanish then said "bueno, economico" which sounded fair. Wow, great seats, midfield, up close, for $20 each .... Then getting in, we were frisked thoroughly and told to blow into a breahalyzer, which seemed to cause great concern (we had one beer each across the street ... the same bar everyone around us was coming from) and they passed the results around, lots of clucking, and then a lecture in Spanish, and we were allowed to go on. Then at the stadium gate, we were again frisked and I was told to take the change out of my pocket (about 60 cents in small coins) and surrender them ... apparently no change allowed, people throw it. Never mind the wife had change in her purse. The seats were great, the game was fun, and we stayed up to the end. We walked to and from the stadium and felt safe. Lots of cops. A good time. A couple other odd rules, no children under 5 and no pregnant women.

Excellent plan if you want to support your team, the entry was relatively quick, although the seats are already assigned, people are placed in any one in order of arrival, I recommend the high locations since they have a roof so you don't have to worry about the rain
