Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I always bring foreign guests here because it's an environment that you can't find in the US or Europe. El Perro plays "música para planchar" (music for ironing) which is Latino and Spanish popular music from the 70s, 80s and 90s--innocent, kitschy and filled with overwrought emotions. It's great fun and everyone sings along. Definitely lowbrow, but with a warm friendly atmosphere. Be aware that it's small and often quite crowded, thus pickpockets can be present, so carefully guard your wallet and cell phone.

El Perro makes a great warm up bar before going to the massive Theatron. Another fun alternative on the same street as El Perro is Indie Cave, a hipster joint that plays indie pop.

People are rude, drinks are terrible and the bathrooms... you really don't want to know. I hated the little time I spent there.
They discriminate against straight people, just FYI.

“El Perro y la Calandria” is always my first step in the tour of gay bars in Chapinero (or as we call it: the Putitour). It is a one of a kind video bar in the world, where everyone will start singing very traditional Colombian and Latin American songs, as loud as possible. It is a very safe space, for a couple of drinks while listening to some “música de planchar” (ironing music), traditional torch songs, and contemporary rancheras. I hope you will get to experience this place when they play any song by Helenita Vargas, a wonderful Colombian singer that died recently, the place shakes with the sound of everyone’s voice. There is no room for attitude, just for a bunch of good memories and very nice people to meet. I left the country a long time ago, and this place never ceases to surprise me.
