The landscapes are nothing out of the ordinary, in fact I would say it is pretty bad compared to anywhere in Brazil. The prices are totally unrealistic. To give you an idea, in the establishment next to the hand monument, coffee was costing the equivalent of 15 reais and a bottle of water 40 reais. The city tour was costing 40 dollars per person, 200 reais in January 2024, for a measly car ride around these tourist spots that you just get off and take a photo to record.

We briefly toured the city center , and had several photo opportunities. A walk on beach roads along the way shopping . Another highlight was the fish market on the pier , with waters show by the seals .

The sea lions one more tourist.
The Punta del Este port has simple access. Good lighting. Small and medium size boats. Amplitude of schedules in high season.
Excellent views of the island.
Wonderful options for sunrise and /or sunset photos.
Well organized and clean.

The port of Punta del Este offers a really aesthetic boardwalk in which there are some lovely restaurants with local food. You can also see 'los lobos' (the sealions) which local shop owners feed fish to. It is quite a sight!

Walking along Rambla you can go to the Port, take beautiful pictures from there, eat excellent sea food and then go on walking eastwards to see the water of Rio de la Plata mixing with water of Atlantic Ocean !

The port/harbor has several nice restaurants to grab a bite. More interesting though is to see the sea lions around the fishing boats. The fisherman toss in fish scraps as they clean and fillet their catch. Real working fisherman with their fishing boats and real wild sea lions in a setting of large sail boats and yachts. Quite an interesting contrast and photo opportunity. Fresh seafood (raw) is also available from numerous stalls.

Just a very pleasant way to enjoy a little more of Punta del Este ! ! ! The boats, the harbour, the critters scrambling for a free meal, the food to be consumed, the fish to be sold, people enjoying the sun, people enjoying the sea, people readying the boats, or ingesting local liquid favorites . .; .

Our family traveled to Punta del Este in November of 2012, and we will never forget it. For us, it was the perfect time to be there, because it is off-season then. We have heard that during high season, it is full of people and activity, and we preferred the peacefulness of the time of year when we were there. We were able to stroll and drive around the area, without dealing with traffic jams or noise. It was absolutely beautiful! Also, staff had time and energy to talk with us and direct us to various interesting locations. If you're not looking for the "party beach scene" and are simply looking for beauty and tranquility, I would say to go to Punta del Este when we did.

Being in Argentina or South America lots of people talk about Punta del Este as if it is some very special and likeable place. Well, you can only say that if you are rich and at the same time have never been to any other beach resort in the world.

Ok, to be fair: the beaches are really nice around there. Nice bright sand, wide beaches and you can go swimming or surfing. But that's it. I've hardly ever seen such an ugly beach resort, only appartments, skyscrapers, characterless roads and buildings. Like a mixture of Jakarta, Miami and Monte Carlo, but Monte Carlo is a lot cheaper ... Punta del Este is just a place to show off, to tell you have been there, you bought some Gucci shoes, have seen a TV star and you have been to this or that special party. Otherwise it's very hard to find a Carribean, European or Southeastasian beach resort that is more ugly.
