My Omani friend, with his Landkreise and we, my wife and myself with a rented Toyota Prado had the great pleasure to drive this unbelievable nice desert, which is not so long - only the start - driving parallel in sand on a speed of 130 .. breathtaking ! the dunes, the desert animals, the overnight in the super camp,... One of the most beautiful places I've ever been, the sands are mesmerizing. Incredible landscapes, quietness, wild animals. It has everything to offer You can even venture and camp in the desert with a 4WD car if you follow the concrete tracks and bring your own camping equipment.

We decided to buy some campingequipment at carrefour in Oman and put up our tent in the wahibasands for the night. Despite the costs for camping gear it was still much more exiting (and cheaper) compared to staying in one of the crowded tourist camps. Unfortunately many campingspots were spoiled with camping waste, but we put our tent on the... More

There are a number of companies offering these overnight or longer stays. Be aware that it takes time to get to them. Essentially, you are treated to rides up and over the dunes with options of quad bikes for some real excitement. The facilities are suitable for all ages with a focus on buffet style meals with BBQ add-ons. There... More

I was hesitant to book a desert expedition because the experience was watered down in Dubai. Not the case here! I booked with Sunshine tours and You travel through old towns until you reach the sands. Their are Bedouin people who live in the dessert still. We visited a old Bedouin tent and they served us tea with dates. The... More

I was not able to do any of the excursions due to time restraints but was able to go by for pictures and see for myself this great area of Oman. The desert is majestic with the multi color sands and rolling hills throughout. A must for anyone that can make the trip.

Enjoyed the sands as part of a 4x4 drive to our overnight camp and camel ride. They are beautiful and certainly worth the visit! Not just for the experience of seeing them, but walking around and seeing the sun rise. The way the sand moves and the animal prints in the sand are beautiful as well!

Over priced "glamping" is not required as it's possible to do a day trip en route from Nizwa to Sur. Arabian Oryx Camp is close to the entrance and offers non-guests the ability to do the fun activities that most people enjoy (dune bashing, camel rides...). If you don't mind rustic accommodations and want to see the sun rise, then... More
