Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

When you think of Arabic souks, you think of labyrinthine dark passageways full of spices and perfume. Beirut Souks are a modern take on this. Although controversial, the area is beautifully done. It would have been impossible to recreate the old Beirut before the wars. This new, modern take may have overly expensive shops and trendy restaurants, but it is a pleasure to walk around them and window shop.

The souk area in Beirut is a lot higher end than souks in other middle east and north African countries. We visited Beirut after visiting Morocco...the Souks are completely different. In Morocco covered streets with cheap touristic shopping stalls are replaced by Boutiques with higher end items.
Even if you aren't looking to purchase something it is a great relaxing walk down the street. There are quite a few restaurants in the the area that are worth a visit as well.

I've read a few mixed reviews about this place. I take a different view, yes it's not your typical Arabic / Middle Eastern Souk but I think this is ok. This place was destroyed during the war, the surrounding building have been breathtaking resorted and even improved. Beirut unlike other cities in Lebanon or the middle east doesn't really have that traditional souk culture. What I feel they have done is embrace a new approach to the traditional souk, which works for Beirut uniqueness in the middle east. Yes, the lower outdoor units are filled with high-end brands but there were enough independent shops to make it less of a mall and more of a souk. My observation was it was a little empty in general around this souk and surrounding area, it may be due the time of season or lack of tourist this year.
Mall or Souk, regardless of what you think its an impressive achievement in how they have restored the area.
My Advice: Don't over think it, it's a nice souk and surrounding area, with loads of cafe shops, restaurants and a really nice cinema.

Visited late afternoon. Lots of shops. Bit expensive. Nice walk with the family. Mixture of modern and antiquity style.

If you want to shop luxury brands, yes this might be the only place where you can find the whole range.
Practically this place is just a big mall built on the ruins of the old Beirut Souks demolished by Solidere, the real estate company managing downtown Beirut. This by itself is a good enough reason not to visit this place. I would recommend other malls in Beirut for shopping if you are not into the super-high-scale.

The market is not really organized as an old market as lots of shops are for locals to do groceries and home shopping
It is suffocating in summer as the scents of meats are strong
Not like other old markets in turkey or morocco

Hello
I wanted to ask pls is this the old downtown ? Is it the outdoors place ?
Or is it a new mall ? I am kind of confused
And is the planet discovery and arcades place inside the mall or outdoors ?
I am planning to eat at balthazar as it was recommended and I have kids with me so I wanna visit these 2 places (discovery and the arcades place)
Thanks for any help :)

It is outdoors. It is modernized and replaced the old charming souks- nevertheless it is still fun with lots to see. Hope this helps

Can we find souvenir shops here? What is the price for non-branded goods : medium to high, low - medium, medium. Do they accept USD in the mall?

Beirut Souks are a very modern part of the city you will not find the souvenirs that represents Lebanon, however the right place to find them is in a small city north west of Beirut around 35 Kilometers called Jubail overlooking the beautiful Mediterranean sea, known to be the oldest city in the world, you will find plenty of historical souvenirs that represents Lebanon.
Back to Beirut Souks, prices are medium to high and they accept US dollars.
Finally, don't miss visiting the city of Jubail you will need a full day to visit the old souks, enjoy the boat ride and fine seafood cosines the city is famous for. Within a few kilometers from Jubail to the North another small city called Amshit that have a famous superb restaurant called (Babil Baher) with magnificent view to the Mediterranean and outstanding fresh seafood menu.

The only entry you will have to pay is the parking fees for your car, but if you shop in TSC supermarket that is located in this mall for 50000 LL = 33.3$, then you have 2 hours free parking.
Enjoy
