- Zise ShuPhilippines565 contributionsThe Saī RitualThe experience is fulfilling. So wonderful to perform the saī ritual pilgrimage of our Umrah journey. There are lots of pilgrims but the place is immaculately clean. Can't imagine all the efforts that the workers putting into it, must be enormous! Hope that all the workers are being paid enough and justly for all of their hard work and kudos to all of them for maintaining the cleanliness of the place.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 27 March 2024
- Moe_IpakUnited States438 contributionsBeautiful.Part of Umrah. It is airconditioned and well maintained. From what I understand, there are 5 floors so if one is crowded, try another floor. There are places to sit on the side if you tired. Plenty of zamzam stations. Be careful of the people running with wheel chairs. Back in the 70's and 8-'s the hills were open to everyone. Everything is closed behind glass because of people's behaviors.Visited November 2024Travelled with familyWritten 13 November 2024
- Haytham Abu FirasQatar21,129 contributionsVery Crowded at all timesSafa and Marwa are names of two mountain, where our Prophet Ibrahim AS left his wife Hajar with her child Prophet Ismail, many thousands of years ago. Hajar was running between 2 mountains Safa and Marwa, till water evolves between the legs of her baby which is called Zamzam well. So, we Muslims do and follow the way of our lady Hajar walking and running between those 2 mountains, 7 times, then drink from Zamzam water. This is a part of our Umrah or Holy visit to Makkah. Nowadays, Safa and Marwa are very crowded at all times. Extension to first and second floor is also more crowded. It is a compulsory part of all visitors to Makkah who want to perform Holy Visit Umrah. Simply do it and Inshalla Allah accept your Umrah.Visited December 2024Travelled with familyWritten 2 January 2025

The second step in Umrah after your Tawaf is Saii. One done with your Tawaf, offer 2 rakah Nafil and then look behind for the sign boards saying “To Masa’a”. You will find a whole crowd near the board and you will find Zamzam taps near by. Drink full from Zamzam water and proceed with the signes. You will reach Safa in around 50 mtrs. You will be able to see the Kaaba from near the Safa mountains. Finish the necessary supplications and start for Saii.
It will be 7 rounds to finish. One trip from Safa to Marwa is counted as one and the return to Safa from Marwa will be two. Hence to complete the 7 circuits you will start at Safa and end at Marwa.
There will be an area where men will be needed to walk faster or run a little. This area will be clearly visible with green line lights in the roof. You will by no chance miss it.
TIPS: Young, strong people can help the old or disabled pilgrims with their wheel chairs. If you are strong it’s a great help of you are able to make them perform Saii by pushing them in their wheelchairs.
If you are using wheelchairs, there are special designated pathways for them so please use those rather than trying to use the walkways.
There are people available who you can pay. They will get the wheelchair and will make you perform Saii for a charge.

The religious symbolism of Umrah and the connection to the Prophets (pbut) and esteemed ladies in Islam that you are walking in their steps is awe inspiring. 7 Tawafs, 7 Sa’ee, as I approached beloved Safa and Marwa with the prayers approaching facing the Kaaba Sharif and then the prayers and dua’s in between facing Kaaba Sharif with hopes and dreams as we made trips between Safa and Marwa to think what Bibi Hajra (pbut) had to endure for Ismail (pbut) and Allah swt delivered unto them gives us all hope that Allah swt will help us over come. As we met a lady who had lost her husband and was deeply upset we took her with us during our Sa’ee and told her that nobody is lost here in the house of Allah swt. With every lap her confidence grew for Allah swt is Mahram above all as they were was for Bibi Hajra (pbut)✨

In spite of the ongoing transformations at the Grand Mosque, the administration manages to keep the Safa to Marwa experience a deeply spiritual one. The electric car service for the people with mobility problems is a little chaotic, but very precious. Considering the little space available, they are doing the best they can and justifies the Covid-19 limitations for performing Umrah.

Safa and Marwa are two small hills located in the Grand Great Mosque Baitullah of Mecca. it is one of the pillar of Hajj and Umrah. Muslims sa'i (travel) back and forth between them seven times, during the ritual pilgrimages of Hajj and ʿUmrah.
Safa—from which the ritual walking or Sa'i begins—and Marwa sa'i end respectively. that seven trips back and forth in a sa'i for performing umrah or Hajj.
Performing the Saʿi means '"seeking", "search", or "ritual walking"') serves to commemorate Hagar's search for water for her son and God's mercy in answering prayers. The walkway is entirely covered by a gallery and is divided into four one-way lanes, of which the inner two are reserved for the elderly and disabled.
in between these two hills a small green lighted area where pilgrims runs to pass this are in sa'i.

Safa Marwa are the two scared mountains next to Bait Ullah in Haram Sharif of Makkah. walking and running between these two points is the important pillar of Umrah and Hajj rituals. these mountains recall the history of Ismail A.S. and his mother.

For a Muslim to complete Umrah, the walk between Safa and Marwa is a must known as Sa’e. 7 rounds of the walk with duas make you reflect on life and the challenges we face which are small compared to what Hajra faced at the time running between the two hills in search of help or water for Ismael. May Allah be pleased with them. Glad to have made this journey ❤️

The area is always busy but is kept really clean. Avoid the centre which is meant for wheel chairs. Also avoid groups or you will be stuck behind them. A certain level of fitness is required since it is a brisk walk. The area is fully tiled. The zam zam areas can get wet but they are generally cleaned often. Although always busy just before salaah is a good time to go and perform salaah while doing the sae.

People with walking problems can also do Sai on a scooter. There are three different floors for people of three other classes. Classes are divided based on health. Healthy and fit people can do Sai while walking, whereas people with health issues can do it on the scooter on the top floor. It was an incredible experience walking where Hajra AS walked. It was like reliving history.

The Sayee/Masa; walking between Safa and Marwa is a must for Umrah/Hajj pilgrims. Very smooth, paved walk on cooling tiles. Wheelchair accessible. Motorized scooters are also available to rent for faster, easier experience. 3 levels open for the walk, 2nd level is usually less crowded!

Why ISLAM do not allow a non-muslim to enter in holy “MAKKA”?
Please give me the answer back. Don’t take me rude i am just a student and doing research on islam..!!

Good morning seeker. I am not an authority on such matters. However, you are aware that Islam is a very disciplined religion - the rules as contained in the Holy Qur'an and the various hadits must be followed. Non-Muslims find it difficult to follow these rules. When it comes to religion - it is a matter of complete faith. Adopt Islam, if you are not Muslim, and go to this most-sacred place - you will experience something that cannot be expressed through words.

Hello,
Thank you for a lovely review. I have a question. I will be coming with my elderly mother (wheelchair dependent). I am not sure how I will be able to take her to the Safa and Marwa and Mount Arafat. Any assistance in that context will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

what is the importance of Safa and Marwa?
Written 22 June 2018
It’s the place where BiBi Hajra wife of Hazrat Ibrahim ran in between those mountains looking for water for her son Hazrat Ismail who was a baby. She ran 7 times between these mountains looking for water for her baby In that scorching heat of desert while her husband was away obeying Allah s command. So as Hazrat Ismail cried and rubbed his feet on the mountain so zamzam water came out. And it flows until today and will till the judgement day qiyamat.
So Allah loves this Amal of bibi Hajra so much that it is part of umrah. These days it’s all air conditioned so it s easy for Muslims to run between these today but back in the days she ran in a scorching heat of desert sand alone with her new born so it’s a big thing. And Allah blessed them with this well water of zamzam. I hope this information helps.

It really depends , how fast you are moving yourself and how crowded it is. If you are young (20-40) and in good health; it shouldn't take you more than 7 minutes per length; so, about 35 - 45 minutes for the whole thing. This is if it isn't crowded. The rest do calculations. May Allah (swt) accepts your prayers and duaa's and good deeds. Ameen
