- Ihar BeliauskiAbu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates636 contributionsRainbow street in AmmanOur visit to Rainbow Street, a week before Ramadan, didn't quite match the vibrant atmosphere depicted in online images. Situated high on the hill, reaching there on foot can be challenging, suggesting a taxi might be a more convenient option. While the street hosts various establishments, it seemed dominated by overpriced restaurants, cafes, and stores. However, we discovered a hidden gem – a delightful Palestinian souvenir store that stood out in the midst of the commercial scene.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 12 March 2024
- 822JeanetteGChristchurch, New Zealand22 contributionsBest little secretTotally peaceful and safe despite neighbourly current situation. People are friendly, much to do ( Dead Sea scrolls, Royal car museum ) and the food is fab. Rainbow Street is great shopping and restaurantsVisited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 May 2024
- Nicolas_CdX66Saint-Jean-Pla-de-Corts, France2,119 contributionsClassic...Street with umbrellas and painted baskets hanging like in many other towns, fresco and painted staircase nearby. Classic, basic, pretty, but already seen and doesn't bring anything new or exceptional. Possibly worth seeing while in the area, but far from necessary.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 June 2024
- Flipperty GibbertCarlisle, United Kingdom236 contributionsA less traditional side of the cityOverrated in my opinion, but nice enough, I guess. Lots of restaurants, cafes, trendy sort of places with umbrella covered walkways, lampshaded streetlights, Solidarity grafitti, painted steps. There are burger bars, restaurants in old buses (I got a much needed slush!) and some overpriced souvenir shops. I expected much MORE given the hype about how cool it is. It is modern though, so I guess that is the attraction. I got a taxi up and walked back down (easier to explore anywhere in Amman that way, it is very hilly). Nice views of the citadel on the way down.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 18 June 2024
- Haytham Abu FirasQatar21,088 contributionsViralA wonderful street in Amman, Jordan. Many shops, restaurants, cafes and places of interest like Jara Market and others. This street will be very viral with pedestrians after sunset. Had a short visit in the morning and dine in in one of the restaurants there.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 August 2024

You will find plenty eatery on this Street, one restaurant have a guitarist playing Jordanian music 🎵, the others are Japanese and Steakhouse...Lebanese and Liquor store. Good for the evening walk to eat and drink.
Prices varied and beware of service charge in some restaurant that add on top of your food bill.

We made a point to head over to Rainbow Street on our first day in Amman. I'm not really sure why this street is so popular. There are a few little alleyways with stairs that are decorated, but nothing really worth coming here for. Our tour guide later explained that the majority of the stores are owned and operated by Ex Pats who charge high prices for their goods. Literally every store we went in offered the exact same things and all were ridiculously high priced. For example, a container of Dead Sea salt scrub was selling for 45 JD (right now, that's $63 USD). We found a similar scrub at a grocery store for 5 JD ($7 USD). The only thing worth going to Rainbow Street for is AlQuds Falafel. Quick and cheap fast falafal sandwiches.

Pretty basic souvenir shopping street with a few coffe shops, fast food offerings and restaurants along the way. None of the famous umbrellas just one side street with colourful wicker baskets. We opted to walk from Rainbow Street down staircases to the Royal Jordan Museum. DO NOT WALK there. We were accosted by youths who first begged then grabbed the chased us while throwing rocks and bottles. The Museum is really nice and has an exceptionally good area for kids to learn about inventions.

What a joke. For locals, I suppose "Rainbow" Street is a total delight. For those visiting from abroad, it's an overpriced, lackluster collection of little shops with junky souveniers. Personally, I didn't find "Rainbow" Street interesting. The UBER driver warned me that "Rainbow" Street is for tourists and that everything there is overpriced. Exploring the two local Souks, the mosque, and the Old Town, where locals shop was far more interesting.

Rainbow Street has definitely changed since 77-81, the years i used to live in Amman. Before there was just the Rainbow Supermarket and the Rainbow Cinema. Now there are many restaurants, bars, souvenir shops but the locals tell me that Jabal Weibdeh is gradually becoming more popular than Rainbow street. However it is worth visiting the souvenir shops to hunt for your souvenirs, and trying one of the restaurants in the evening. During the day there were not too many people around so it is better to come in the evening.

Had a slow walk along the Rainbow Street from beginning to the end in a late afternoon. It was still quite quiet at that time. Maybe its charm starts only at night. Saw sushi, cafe, and several other restaurants along the way. There was a flat ground near the middle of the road that allows public to enjoy Amman’s hilly view. I chanced upon a very nice cafe called Satar Specualty Coffee that brews professional coffee. As always, the Jordanian owner was extremely welcoming and friendly. You can drop by for a cup of great coffee if visiting the street.

This is a street extending from Jabal Amman 1st circle. From several places along this street one can have a panoramic view of the city center and the old town. 50 years ago it used to be the main street in Amman's most lavish neighborhood. Currently it is a tiled street with restaurants and cafes on both sides. The best time to experience this street is during the afternoons and evenings of the months of April to November. There are also some souvenir shops on this street that sell local handcrafts.

A few hours in total relaxation, heat permitting, browsing through the various attractions of the street. A good restaurant to regenerate yourself with excellent Jordanian food is not difficult to find, here you are in the right place. Excellent places also for night drinks.

The main street in Downtown Amman running from 1st Circle.
It's lined with more bars, coffee shops, restaurants and gift shops than you'll ever need! There is something here for everyone.
The atmosphere is lively, especially in the evening, but there is a local feel to it.

I drove through rainbow street, a lively bustling place. I cannot find a place to review Amman in general and hence am posting it here. Amman is such a unique place for the region and many probably do not realize it. It’s safe, modern and accessible. First off unlike what I found on many online resources, visa on arrival is very convenient and they accept credit cards. Due to past info, I thought we needed only cash and went through money exchange and got ripped off. Get money from any atm after. As a city, it’s maintained really clean and seems very organized. It’s a great place to visit. They have great food, very friendly and hospitable people. Only reality check was that your American dollar is not as strong to be able to spend lavishly.

I went to a nice shop in Rainbow street where they sold shisha pipes, molasses and all you need to smoke shisha. The shop was quite small, but modern and very illuminated. I bought something there, but I would like to contact the guy working there to buy something else online. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name and can't find it on Google or Google Maps. I remember the shop was going up the street on the left side, quite along the first section of the road.
Does anyone know the name and the address or any profile on Facebook or Instagram?
Thank you so much from Italy!

As I will be arriving in Jordan on a Friday. How would I go about changing my GBP currency into the Dinar?
as I’m sure banks are closed on a Friday.
Apart from banks are there any other exchange places?
Thank you.

Hola.

Did you go on Friday? From what I understand, that's the day to go b/c there is street market and even the locals come out. If you did and it still was meh...I don't think I'll make the effort to go. There are other things I can do instead I'm sure.
Written 26 April 2015
On Friday they usually have Souk Jara and local artist and bands playing for free after 7. I'm not so sure the market has opened for the season. I will try to check and get back to you. It's best if open to park in the back streets and walk to it as the main Street leading to the market can be chaotically congested. I once went to the Abdali boulevard market but seasonal. Please check before you plan to visit those mentioned places if they are still on. There's an organic fruit and vegetable market in Al Rabieh every Saturday would be nice to visit if you're in amman or Jordan for a few days.

Ron B, search for Rajeen Resturant & Cafe's at google maps. It's on that street. Near by, there's the Books@cafe a really nice restaurant! I defintely recommend it!
