This museum is amazingly interesting! The tour guides are very knowledgeable and interesting and start the tour with a model of Mt. Moriah and how it was first excavated and built upon. If you want to understand what is underneath this ancient and holy city, then this is a MUST! I don’t want to spoil it by explaining what you will see so I’ll leave this as a strong encouragement to go visit! It is a popular museum as it is a walking tour of actual ‘A’ sites of archaeology and points of interest that can only be viewed from the tunnels so be sure to plan ahead and reserve your tour early. I was able to go in January, but last trip I couldn’t get a reservation for my visit (it was June and busy season...I would have had to book two months previously).

You will need to book a tour, so I would recommend to check the ticket counter first and see what times they have left (in the tunnel next to the toilets, before the actual tour entrance. You will need to pass security in the western wall complex first). Alternatively the offer a VR experience for a similiar price - this one was just ok, but not necessarily worth the fee. Whereas the tunnel tour was fantastic. Although we had the last tour of the day and our guide a jewish rabbi was clearly already tired he did a fabolous job which was both informative, inspiring and funny. You will walk through the excavations and through hundreds if not thousand years of history and see the western wall at it's base. The tour lasted for around one and a half hours I think (maybe less).

Exploration of The Western Wall Tunnels (The Kotel) is a fascinating step back in history to expose the concealed majority of expanse of the Western Wall. The tunnel, approximately 485 meters in length, reveals expansive foundation stones and Herodian masonry, portions of a street, a quarry, synagogue, as well as "The Struthion Pool". A model of Temple Mount is shown at the beginning of the tour, which shows the expansions of Temple Mount, with a short video presentation during the tour. The tunnel exists onto the Via Dolorosa. Access to the Tunnels is by guided tour; tickets must be purchased ahead online and do sell out.

This is a must see attraction in Jerusalem. The history is quite fascinating so it's a good thing that the price of tickets include a guided tour.
Just remember to book ahead online. We didn't do that and tours for the day were fully booked except for the 7.20pm slot. And this is during off peak season. Fortunately, we still had time to do this the next day.
I got a little confused with the wet and dry tunnels. This is the dry tunnel, the wet tunnel is known as Hezekiah's tunnel.
Remember they close early on Shabbat, I think about 4pm, so be sure to check this out.

Very disappointing. My wife visited many years ago and told me how wonderful it was as you walked through the low narrow tunnels as they would have been for centuries.
Now they are large vaulted rooms with very little information in each room and no where near the experience we have had in other ancient sites.
We got a guide that only spoke Hebrew.
Accepting that most of the tour was from one long lecture to another where she described the history and different areas. The group was too large which meant that half the people couldn’t see what she was describing.
The guy at reception initially said he couldn’t speak English and later spoke perfectly.

Don’t miss this! You’d be crazy to visit the wall and Old Town without including this peak underground. It is magnificent what had been done. Very moving seeing woman only praying in the very small section closest to the Holy of Holies. A short video at the very end of the wall also explains the construction. One of the wall stones, only seen from underground, is the 3rd largest in the world. We were not allowed access to the special synagogue there but understand it is breathtakingly beautiful.

We did this tour as a group of 14 work colleagues, though the total number of people on the tour itself was about 30. Mattie, our guide, was excellent — incredibly knowledgeable and with a fantastic sense of humor. Great insight into the history of the Old City and it’s really neat to see the wall from a different perspective.
The only real downside was that our tour had far too many people on it — sometimes we couldn’t see half of what Mattie was explaining to us and it was a tight squeeze for the group at every stop.
Note there are some small/tight sections you’ll need to pass through at some points, as well as some low-hanging ceilings — so this tour may not be for everyone.

I thought this was a must in Jerusalem - to go through the tunnels next to the Western Wall. It was crowded, commercialised, really disappointing for something that should be great. You walk along the Western Wall underneath the city for about 1.5 kms. I think the tourists have killed this

This is a very good tour undertaken with the benefit of the guide who absolutely knew her subject and had great enthusiasm (although more of that later).
Entrance is by a timed ticket so there is not much point in arriving early. The tour takes about an hour and is a perfect when couple with a visit to the Temple Mount and Wailing Wall nearby.
It provides an good insight to the history of the wall and also the construction.
The only criticism I would have is that as the tour progressed the guide had a significant religious bias which was a shame.
Overall recommended

I booked this tour last-minute. The gate guard informed me there was 1 spot left for the tour in 30 minutes so I went to buy the ticket in the office. Initially, the staff told me the tickets were all sold out, but when I insisted that I was just told there were a space left. Then the staff admitted that he has 1 ticket left for the next coming tour... I guess if you wanna try your luck, you have to be persistent.
Anyway, I was very lucky to book last-minute, and also super lucky to have a very passionate tour guide, who made the tour very interesting, explained things clearly so I learned more history about Jerusalem and the western wall. In my opinion, your experience will heavily depend on the tour guide. If you happen to not get a good one, it might not worth it since you might not know what you are seeing and won't get a lot from it.

Is this ok for a Claustrophobic person? Are the tunnels wide or narrow? Are we in small/confined spaces?
Written 22 May 2023
Much of the area is quite open (largish rooms but in some spots, the short passages between rooms are a bit narrow. The area is fascinating but you should use your judgement based on how you might feel in the area.

What is the difference between the "The Great Stone Tour (The Classic Tour)" and the "The Great Bridge Tour (NEW)" in terms of what is visited, etc? Is one recommended over the other?
Written 26 August 2022
Both tours are great. The great bridge tour shows you newly discovered architecture.

Does anyone know if you can enter the Western Wall Tunnels through the Via Dolorosa exit? Do the passage the other way around and end in the actual Western Wall Plaza.
Written 24 January 2020
All the other responses are correct. Entry is by the Western Wall plaza. Exit is by Via Dolorosa.

Where do we meet please to start the tour? It didn't seem to say!
Thanks

Hi !
sorry the delay...
The meeting point is just at left side of "man's entrance" to the Western Wall... you can see it in big letters - it is just there, a big entrance (just like a theater).
Go 10 minutes, at least, before the appointment time you made.
It will take around 1 hour and the archeologist who made the explanation was very good. Now I understand a little better all the history behind (under) it.

Hello,
Could you please let me know where to book this tour in advance?
TIA

Through the kotel website directly. Don’t waste your money getting it elsewhere. Sometimes it doesn’t load properly because of your server. I ended up purchasing the tickets on my phone because it wouldn’t work on my computer 🤷🏻♀️

What is the difference of 'behind of thr scene' and 'kota tunnel' when make a researvation W.Wall tunnel tour. behind~ course include kota~course?
Written 24 September 2019
The Kotel is the Hebrew name of the Western Wall. When you book your tour, you can ask for the Kotel tunnel tour or the Western Wall tunnel tour - they are the same thing, no difference.

Need information about the Western Wall Tunnels tours available
Written 30 August 2019
If you ho to the Kotel, you go to the area just next to the entrance to the men's prayer section. They can provide times for tours which are about every hour.

How long does it take to go (tour) through the tunnels? Do u come out some place?
Written 17 May 2019
15-20 mins. But it depends, if you want to stop and listen to the story or pray maybe 25-30 mins. You will exit on Via Dolorosa.
