This was the last stop at the end of a full day of touring. The Garden Tomb is outside Old Jerusalem a short walk away. Although we were not in Jerusalem at the peak tour season, it was still nice to get away from hustle bustle of Old town and into a peaceful garden. It was late in the day, so I am uncertain if that is why there were fewer people or if that is arranged by the place to keep it a place of quiet contemplation. Our guide gave us a tour of the "skull" site and nearby tomb. It is amazing what a change of perspective one has attending this place versus what we see in movies and art work. We also have a place reserved for our tour group to have a service with communion. This made it one of the more memorable places we visited during our tour.

There are doubts as to whether this is the real location of Jesus' tomb and resurrection, but for me it seemed far more plausible than the Church of the Holy Sepulchre - also less crowded and far more 'holy'. The tomb is set into the side of the hill, with a stone in front (unlike the one in the church); it's outside the city walls (unlike the one in the church) and it has a hill with the clear shape of a skull (Golgotha). Don't miss this, especially if you go the the Holy Sepulchre (which will disappoint you). Just stand here, and you will feel the Lord's presence and it will be as if the Gardener were standing next to you outside the empty tomb...

Our trip to Israel was the trip of a lifetime. We traveled with Blue Diamond Travel, a large group of 360, divided into 8 buses. We stayed with our group for seven days, spending 4 nights in Jerusalem, 3 nights in Tiberias. 5-star hotels, David at the Citadel in Jerusalem, and Gai Beach Resort in Tiberias. Each bus had a guide and driver. Our guide made our trip fabulous; he was knowledgeable on biblical history, both old and new testament, as well as current on the state of Israel today. We walked on average 3 mi/day, one day 6.5 mi; our group was senior adults. we all made it just fine, with plenty of rest stops, shopping stops and fabulous food morning, noon and night. Blue Diamond provided 3 professional photographers which took the pressure off trying to listen/learn and snap photos at every stop; they provided all photos at no additional charge, as well as videos and a coffee table book. If you are a Christian, interested in walking the Bible, this is the tour for you.

Peaceful and tranquil, this is the place where many Protestants believe that Jesus was buried. I thought our guide provided an excellent explanation/argument as to why this location is the one that they believe the event occurred. I found this site to much less chaotic than the Church of the Holy Sepluchre. The Garden Tomb is what I had always imagine the Garden of Gethsemane to look like, and it is an excellent place for Protestants to ake communion.

The Garden Tomb is believed to be the burial site of Jesus, particularly by Evangelical Christians, including Mormons. The Garden Tomb's authenticity is disputed by Orthodox Christians. However, its traditional location in the region of Jerusalem's city walls adds credibility to the Garden Tomb's claim to be the place from where Jesus was Resurrected.

Peaceful garden in Jerusalem that contains the tomb of Jesus.

Located just outside the city walls of Jerusalem you will find The Garden Tomb, a possible location for the crucifixion, burial and resurrection of Christ Jesus.

Near to the Damascus Gate and standing in the shadow of Skull Hill you will find this beautiful garden with its ancient empty tomb.

The gardens are beautiful and peaceful with many chapels throughout with people praying and singing.

This is a special spot.

So much about this place fits the Biblical record but loved the perspective of the onsite tour guides. They don't adamantly insist it's the tomb of Christ but explain how it could be and what the significance of the empty tomb means to the world. Very surreal and uplifting.

Yes the garden is spectacular and yes, seeing this place is amazing, but it was our guide and getting beyond the guide script to his incredible love for people that msde this tour amazing. I’m not sure if you can request a specific guide, but if you can ask for David, and you will have an amazing experience. I have posted his picture for your convenience. Groups can also have time for worship in designated areas. Bask in the presence of the Lord.

Greetings, Thank you for the very nice review. I will tell your guide, Peter, that you were moved by his explanation. He is a very long time part of the Garden Tomb team and loves the Garden Tomb and the message of the death, burial and resurrection. Many blessings, Brian

This is a beautiful, peaceful place that displays a historical tomb and wine press in a tranquil garden. It is an excellent place to get a visual of the burial of Jesus Christ, if not the actual site. There are many places to stop and reflect for individuals as well as groups. Many stop for communion here and it is a very memorable place to take time to pray and meditate. The tour guides do a great job of the history and discovery of this site. They also have a little gift shop with post cards of the site and other items, like models of the tomb which could be great for teaching children about the burial and resurrection. I feel like if your trip is a Christian pilgrimage, this is a pertinent stop on your visit to the Holy Land. I was with a tour group but I do believe it is by reservation only. They have an email and have English speaking people so you can easily find out information for your visit before you arrive in Jerusalem.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a kind, thoughtful, and informative review. You captured the ethos of the site and the essence of the experience wonderfully. Regarding reservations - groups of 10 or more and/or groups travelling with a tour guide need to make a reservation, but independent travelers can arrive at any time during our opening hours and enter for free.

We were so impressed with our guide who was very knowledgeable. History surrounded us and the garden was beautiful. Since we were with a tour group, we did have a communion service and were given olive wood communion cups to use and bring home.
