- Trevor M6 contributions10/10, would highly recommend for anyone seeking a serene escape with a side of architectural brilliance. The architectural design of the gardens is mind-blowing. The way the steps seamlessly blend with the natural landscape is simply genius. Whether you're a nature lover, an architecture enthusiast, or just someone looking for a quiet spot to contemplate life, the Baha'i Gardens tick all the boxes. It's not just a garden; it's an experience that leaves you feeling refreshed and, dare I say, a bit enlightened.Visited March 2023Travelled soloWritten 14 November 2023
- Jill's TravelsRochester, New York28 contributionsBeautiful! We signed up for the free 45 min tour offered by the Bahai Gardens staff - and we had a wonderful experience. The tour guide explained the history, and theology of Bahai as well as sharing info about the gardens. There are really 700 steps down as part of the tour - and that’s only half of the property. I highly recommend a visit to Haifa and these gardens!!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 May 2024

Beautiful place, BUT! disgusting organization, there is no information about opening hours anywhere, the employee asked us to walk for an hour and after an hour we would be allowed into 2 observation decks, after an hour, other employees at the entrance asked to walk for another 20 minutes, when I asked why they didn’t immediately tell us one and a half hour and where is the guarantee that in 20 minutes we will not be asked to walk around again, they said that the employees need lunch, and that since it is all free, we should be grateful that they let us in at all. 20 minutes later, when the first employee arrived, his colleagues complained that we were unhappy - and he then said that they would probably let us go in half an hour. (key word - probably) the argument was that they are people too and that they need to have lunch, and not all the employees have had lunch yet. at the moment when the employee ran out of arguments in English, he switched to pure Russian, he turned out to be Vladislav and there was some strange theme of abuse of power in this whole story, if we want - we’ll let you in, if we want - no. Moreover, we came from afar and spent the whole day on this trip. Next to us there was another family who had also been walking around the fences for an hour and a half and were patiently waiting for everyone to have lunch and rest, but were not sure whether they would be allowed in in the end. Bottom line, we are all human, of course, but when it comes to such attractions, their schedule should be clearly marked, regardless of whether there is a paid entrance or not. Both simple, understandable rules and their observance would leave tourists with a pleasant impression.

During the month of November, the gardens are a burst of bright color in a city with very few gardens blooming.
Exquisitely manicured, the gardens are beautiful with many plantings of bright reds and other amazing colors.
There are nineteen terraces that extend up the northern slope of Mt. Carmel. The golden dome Shrine of the Bab, is the resting place of the Prophet Herald of the Bahai faith.
Impressive.

Nice grounds but painful experience as they do not sell any water and as one had to walk up after going down (no buses going up on Saturday morning…). The entrance system is very confusing as there are 3. The one on top is useless. The one in the middle is the only one to be used. One cannot go up from the one below so this entrance is useless. Very chilly to find parking anywhere. Overall a painful experience… the self guided tours are free but you need to reserve a spot online as this is in fact a group tour…

Bahai Garden was the highlight of Haifa when we visited the city on March 19, 2023. The stunning terraced garden has many colorful flowers and well-maintained lawns and shrubberies. The stairs leading down to the main temple offered a great vantage viw of Haifa's port and city. The mood was serene and harmonious that reflected the pillars of their Bahai Faith.
The access to this wonderful garden is free. However, prospective visitors must register for an appointment slot at their official website. Most tourist were only shown the view from the top. We saw many tourist buses stopped for photos from the veranda on top of the garden. We did not see groups of tours going through the garden. Taking a bus from the main train station to the top entrance was easy. It was one bus ride with several stops. Google maps worked really well in transits here in Haifa.

Gorgeous manicured gardens, magically illuminated at night, sit prominently above Haifa on the northern slope of Mount Carmel. We were unable to tour the massive shrine at the pinnacle of the Baha'i Gardens, but rather viewed the religious site from its base while the moon rose above. Staircases up the terraced levels provide access and design interest.

Nothing great other than the flowers and the landscaping arrangement. You go to the top and can only enter the gate plus one level down which is not open most times. You can tour with reservations two more levels which is basically more flowers and landscaping. The rest of the gardens are not open to the public.
Sort of a disappointment considering they claim you can walk around the gardens which is what we expected, yet be told that you cannot walk around the majority of the gardens and only take photos from above. Not worth going to just for photos from the top which is crowded with tourists.

Beautiful gardens in the heart of Haifa. It is recommended to book a guided tour of the gardens' site. A tour takes place in several languages. Alone, without a guide it is forbidden to walk around most of the areas of the gardens. The tour takes about 45 minutes, starts from the top and descends down according to the levels of the garden. Very romantic for couples. Also suitable for a trip with children, but children are not really small because it is required to keep quiet on site.

After many attempts to schedule their free tours and researching forums about how best to see these gardens, we found ourselves at the upper terrace Yefe Not street entrance BUT that is not the meeting spot for the guided tours, which even if you are not signed up or are late, just show up...10am or 10:30(see the schedule). Walk south of this manned main entrance, a few hundred meters and there is a visitors center with guard booth. He will tell you when the next tour is, we followed the Hebrew tour,(english speakers) but it doesn't matter , you are joining the tour to gain access to more of the gardens. GORGEOUS they are, and if it is morning you can enter the temple. They are strict, you can not wander on your own. There is a 'sweep' guide who will also answer questions and see that you remain with the group. Lower terraces are limited access for the winter. You must exit and walk the perimeter to gain access to the lower level which in winter is not really worth it. Get on a tour, the design and the integration of water and design is impressive.

I’ve been to this place a couple of times as part of an excursion, and judging by the reviews, it’s worth visiting this place this way. To say that this place, its location, the beauty of the gardens, the temple, the sculptures inspires me personally is an understatement...
Every time at the end of the excursion, standing over the forged gates overlooking the sea, I remember the words of the song:
Under the blue sky -
There is a golden city
With transparent gates
And with a bright wall.
And in that city there is a garden:
All herbs and flowers.
Animals are walking there
Unprecedented beauty.
The Bahai Gardens are garden terraces around the Temple of the Bab on Mount Carmel in Haifa. There are also gardens in Acre, but those gardens cannot compare with those in Haifa in grandeur and beauty. Both the gardens and the temple are dedicated to the Babism religion, and the temple serves as the tomb of Baba, the founder of the faith. The terraces of the garden represent Baba's 18 disciples.

The Baha’i faith was a new concept to me, introduced by these gardens through the guided tour.
Be aware that this is a spiritual place, and you will be asked to dress properly (cover your legs at least below your knees, and cover your shoulders).
The best way to visit is by reserving through their website in advance. It is very easy, and on my experience, they will have a spot even for the next day. This is important specially if you don’t speak the local language. I saw tours on Hebrew, English, and Russian. The address on their website will take you to the wrong gate. Just cross the street, and you’ll get to the entrance! The best way to cross the street is on the underground tunnel, which in addition will protect you from the sun for a few seconds.
Most of the tour is walking where there is no shadow to protect you from the sun. If you like photography, the tour is also the best way to get some good shots. However, you gotta be quick, because you are not allowed to wander on your own.
To visit at your own pace, it is best to get in outside the tour. However, this visit will be restricted to certain areas depending on which gate you entered the site. The widest garden is the upper garden. To go back from where the tour ends, it is best to take a bus. Be aware that you’ll need an Israeli transportation card or the app for that, since that is the only method of payment.
If you don’t want to take the bus, prepare for a 15-minute walk uphill down the blazing sun. You’d better invest that energy on walking inside the gardens!!
In my personal opinion, the gardens are better enjoyed once you know the Baha’i context from the tour.

Hi, I have few questions.
1. How much time walking is it from Haifa's HaShmona train station to the B'hai Gardens?
2. Is there any Kosher fastfood businesses nearby?
3. Is the entrance to the B'hai Gardens require payment?
Written 22 February 2020
1.8 miles , I am sure you will find some but little bit far away

The only day we can go is Wednesday. Is it possibly to get into the gardens on this day?
Written 18 June 2019
My answer is 99% yes.
I have not seen any sign (or heard anybody) informing about days of closure.
Written 21 June 2019
I believe so. We had a private tour with a member of the Bahai faith.
