Having climbed the snake path, visited the cliff, the palace, the Fortress and all that there is to see up there,
Having enjoyed the stunning views on the Dead Sea and the mountains around,
Then the Museum becomes a must see as it will complete the story of this so incredibly important site.
Important for the history of the Jewish people and for the existing State of Israel.
Try not to skip this museum.

We stopped in here after touring the top of Masada and thought it was a nice museum. It is small but has a number of interesting artifacts. The museum is kept very dully lit and this makes it a bit hard to find your way around, but it is definitely worth going.

Masada was built by Herod between 37 and 31 BCE and is truly one of the wonders of the world. Jordan was the then strong enemy of the Jews in this area and between Jordan and Masada is a valley containing the Dead Sea. Thus Masada is the first bit of Israel which must be defended and hence the highest point is selected - Masada.

It is 1,300 feet high and on top 1,800 x 900 feet in scope. The ascent is tortuous, but today there is a cable car available. On top are many towers, storehouses, barracks, an armory, cisterns and the palace for Herod (one of many it seems).

The site had an ingenious set of trenches around and about the west side in which rainwater would be captured and run into cisterns to provide water for Masada.

One can see restored sections of this 2000 year old site with cisterns, bath houses with frescoes and a furnace operation to bring steam and hot water in, wine storage rooms with housing (or holes) set to avoid overturning the vessel.

Truly an eighth wonder of the world in its building and provisioning for the occupants

Worth visiting! The story of Masada is really impressive. The ruins are carefully preserved and you can take audio tour or can just explore signs and guide, enjoy great views of the Dead Sea, Jordan mountains and old Roman forts ruins.
Quite expensive - 72 shekels for visit with funicular for adult. But the parking is free and the site is in very good condition.
If you have time - you can climb up to the hill by foot (about 40 minutes) - please prepare water and be ready to the hot sun above.

I've been here twice in the last 6 months; once in July and just recently in December 2014. During the summer it is a MUST to wear a hat and bring plenty of water. There are stations on top of Masada to refill water bottles with fresh ice water for FREE! I was on a tour and we took every moment to scramble and squish to find even the tiniest bit of shade for relief. Even in December, one still had to be careful with the sun.
Absolutely gorgeous views in all directions. The history of the place and the ancient tiles, floors, rooms, mikvehs, etc that were King Herod's are very impressive. We had a tour guide each time. I learned something new each time as each tour guide is extremely knowledgeable and uses their own personality and interest to enhance the tour. We took the cable car up and down. I've heard nightmare stories of ppl being deceived of the climb up and not being properly prepared with enough water or being physically fit. If there's time, lots of ppl ride the cable car up and hike down.
The gift shop inside has something for everyone on your gift list. There's also a good choice of food in the food court with 2 or 3 places selling Israeli salads and sandwiches.

We thought that as an ancient site at the top of the mountain, washroom facilities would be basic at best, so you can imagine our surprise at finding not only hot and cold running water in the ladies, but soap and paper towels as well. Masada itself is amazing and the views are breaktaking. Well worth the visit if you're into archaeological history - but take the cablecar unless you're REALLY fit!

The Masada Museum is a newer addition at the Masada National Park, dedicated to the archaeologist who did the majority of the work to excavate the site: Yigael Yadin. It is found just before the ticket booth and I believe requires a separate entrance fee. An audio guide is mandatory and photography is forbidden.

The Museum consists of about nine rooms, all geared towards recounting the time of Herod, the siege by the Romans, and the subsequent struggle and downfall of the Jewish rebels. I'm not going to spoil the details, but suffice it to say the museum is quite innovative in its design without relying on hokey computerized graphics and displays. It takes about 45-60 minutes to walk through and is one of the few I've seen worth a visit just for the experience itself if that makes sense. Recommended.

The Masada site itself is so imposing, towering over the surrounding area, that it's easy to miss the museum near the visitors' center. The museum itself is artistically presented, with cast metal figures in darkened rooms where artifacts from Masada are displayed in lit cabinets. The artifacts themselves are incredible, and include objects of daily living like amphorae and cooking utensils, coins, weapons, clothing and, most incredibly, the ten shards of pottery with the names of Jewish rebels on them that the rebels used to determine who would have to kill each other as part of the mass suicide that ended the siege of Masada. I only had a few minutes to walk through this museum, but would have loved to have an hour or more to see everything here.

I have been there twice in the last years - surprisingly they added new archeological exhibits to it. We did it with a tour guide, but you can rent an audio tour roo, which is very comfortable, if you want to dig in to history and do it by your own in your own pace

Great museum with wonderful audio. Rooms portraying the different stages of Masada's history, filled with fascinating artifacts...especially the shards with names written on them...possibly the real ones used to decide who would be the last one alive? Don't miss this!
