The fountain of Pollio is located near the temple Dominicana in the square. It was built by the wealthy Ephesian Pollio and his family in 97 ad. the Fountain is built in the form of a high arch with a large pool in front of it. It was supplied with water from three main sources via aqueducts. The springs were several tens of kilometers away. The Romans could already calculate the slope of the aqueduct to provide water flow. What accuracy is needed both in calculations and in execution! Water ran from the fountains through an extensive network of pipes made of baked clay, spreading it further throughout the city. The Pollio fountain was decorated with statues in large numbers. Some of them – the head of Zeus, the statues of Odysseus and Polyphemus, which were placed in the pool, are now in the Museum of Ephesus, in Seljuk.

Its construction dates back to the year 97 AD. Water was distributed to the city free of charge, it came through three sources and then passed through the aqueducts. We can see a high arch and archaeological remains of what this place was.

This fountain was built by a wealthy Roman family in 1c to receive water from the aquaduct, from a source several kms distant.
There's not much left of it apart the big arch - quick photo stop few steps away from the main Curetes street.

The Pollio Fountain was built by the wealthy Pollio family. Water was brought to Ephesus from aqueducts to fountains through baked clay pipes. Water from the public fountains was free and provided refreshment for people on the streets. The fountain is quite well distinguished by a large arch. Look for the clay pipes along the street.

Another remnant of what was probably once a lovely fountain with lots of decorations. Now a pile of stones but some of the decorations survive.

There are so many amazing sights at Ephesus things like the Fountain of Pollio can easily be overlooked. Here, the arch is what it's all about!

I struggle to understand why ever object at Ephesus needs its own attraction on TA. I didn’t think there was much to this attraction, other than the interesting waterways of Ancient Ephesus. The arch has been poorly reconstructed, worth a photo to say you saw it.

Our guide told us that C.S. Pollio was a wealthy Ephesian. Not sure what he did, but his archway is certainly impressive!

Ephesus has some remarkable structures. This one is one of the more impressive ones and has been restored to give a good impression of the originl.
