The Sultanahmet Square is the heart of the Old City in Istanbul. Many historical monuments are close by, and it is a great place for people watching.

Sultanahmet Square is the oldest part of Istanbul housing Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum and the Basilica Cistern. It is a very prestigious place and a Must-See when in town.

Yes it's safe to go, and you'll love the colourful fountain: make sure you take lots of photos of the mosques with the fountain in the middle, they'll look great! It gets very quiet at night so makes for a beautiful walk.
