It an excellent promenade area surrounded by history from every corner. The Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia, a museum and other sites. Extremely quiet and serene interrupted occasionally by the calls for prayers from several minarets in the surrounding area. There is an active metro station...More

The best view from Hagia Sophia, a vibrant square full of life. Sit there and enjoy the melting pot of nationalities and languages from all over the world.

This area is beautifully constructed and has vendors that sell all sorts of snacks and fruit and fresh juices at very cheap prices. Great to spend and rest between mosque visits!

Apparently everyone goes here to see and be seen. And it's handy to the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia.

Just sitting on any bench of the Sultanahmet Square, enjoying the singing water as it arches to the sky and falls at the base of the fountain, or walking slowly eating a dripping cone of Istanbul ice-cream is an act of humbleness. You feel small...More

Yes it's safe to go, and you'll love the colourful fountain: make sure you take lots of photos of the mosques with the fountain in the middle, they'll look great! It gets very quiet at night so makes for a beautiful walk.
