About
Galatasaray Hamam, is in the buildings of Galatasaray Mosque - (Kulliye), It was originally built, together with the kulliye itself during the regin on Beyazit II. The construction of Galatasaray Hammam stands on a mysterious story. When the Sultan Beyazit was wandering around the land where todays Galatasaray Lycee and the Galatasaray Hammam stands on now; he sees a hut. This hut belongs to Gul Baba, a respected man of his time. Sultan Beyazit meets this man and asks him "Gul Baba - do you have any wishes?" and Gul Baba wishes the the construction of a school to conquer over the centuries and a Kulliye to have a hammam with a dome. Sultan Beyazit accepts the wish and makes the kulliye be built in 1481. Gul Baba's grave is still in the Kulliye and the Galatasaray Hammam has conquered over the centuries just like he has wished. The editor of the book " History of Galatasaray", Fethi Isfendiyaroglu, states that the Galatasaray Hammam has served the students, during his education. Thus he says, as a student of Galatasaray Lycee "Before, during our times, there was hammam service every morning, the students were gathered in their dormitories every morning and taken to Galatasaray Hammam, next to the garden of the school. When the students were in the bath, the door of the hammam was closed and no other customers were let in. The Galatasaray Hammam, adressing the centuries, have served many pashas, muslim judges ( kadi ), and grand viziers and have participated in the pure lifes of these people. Galatasaray Hammam, with the heritage of the past, is also modern, both in the quality of its services and the hospitality of its staff.

The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Beyoglu
Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.
How to get there
  • Taksim • 9 min walk
  • Şişhane • 10 min walk

Hygienic place & real experience
Jul. 2021
This bath has changed after the pandemic.
- Service quality is very good,
- Oil massage time is 50 minutes,
- Staff has changed and experienced. Now we can experience a traditional Turkish bath in a hygienic place.

Thank you Mr. Can

Must do activity on any visit to Istanbul
Jul. 2019 • Friends
Although I strongly feel a traditional Turkish bath like you will receive here is a must do on any trip to Istanbul I will caution it is not for the modest! Towels will always be worn in coed spaces but it is a much more naked experience once you are with women only- so prepare yourself if you are more modest like I am. That being said this traditional scrub down that I received in a private room with one of my friends was one of the most hilarious (imagine being covered in so many bubbles you can’t see) and cleansing (after I left I was so relaxed and truly never felt so clean) experiences I ever enjoyed. I highly recommend!

Enjoy every minute
Feb. 2020
Hammam with great history and hight service of professionals!

I was pleasantly surprised by a very beautiful interior, high-quality service by a professional and a very pleasant environment.

A place where you really relax in body and soul, treat yourself and enjoy every minute of your staying. I took a pasha services and I’m completely satisfied, it's not cheap, but it's really nice experience.

After the complex of services the skin is very velvety, the body is rested and you feel incredible energy.

Wish to everyone at least once to visit that hammam!

Completely WASTE of MONEY - Ministry Of Tourism should close down this place
Jan. 2020
3 of us sign-up for Full-Service packages which cost each of us about 320 Lira and was promised for 1-hour service. They took all 3 of us took a room for sauna (men and women are together and no separation) and we all must only wear single cloth to cover our body. They ask us to lie down on a very hot marble stone for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, one old man came did some fast scrub and simple massage with less than 2 minutes. The entire service only lasted for 28 minutes. What a reap off !!.

Real hammam experience
Jan. 2020
The real hammam experience in the real historical hammam dated back 1481ca. Treatments exceed even the most demanding traveller. Courtesy, kindness and cleanse are the regular attitude within a memorable atmosphere that bring you back to the glories time of perfumes and colors. My deep thank you goes to Mertcan Last but not least...perfect English spoken. You all have been so precious...
