About
This Turkish archipelago used to be the holiday destination of choice for the rich and famous. And with stunning Greek Orthodox monasteries, wooden houses, beautiful unspoiled forests, and gorgeous beaches—it's hard not to see why. Princes' Islands, or Adalar, is made up of nine small, mostly car-free, islands and is known for its horse-drawn carriages, reminiscent of a time gone by. Only four of the nine islands are inhabited, with Buyukada and Heybeliada being the largest. Decide for yourself which ones you want to visit, or book a boat tour from the Istanbul mainland that will take you to some of the best sights. – Tripadvisor

- MarouaneRabat, Morocco16 contributionsBeautiful BuyukadaDefinitely a must go to anybody who’s in istanbul. Plan to go on the fairy early like 9 am or earlier. There are a lot of places to see in the island, its simply beautiful and peaceful. Great for cycling. Its advisable to go back at around 4 pm, as the ferries tend to become overcrowded. To go there, either take the boat from kabataj or kadikoy ferry port depending in which one is closer to you.Hello Dear Traveler elhadimarouanee, Thank you for your comment about the Prince Islands, one of the most beautiful places in the world. Plenty of shops, cafes etc. We had a lovely seafood lunch, then caught the last ferry back at 5pm. - AlexLondon, United Kingdom26 contributionsBeautiful day trip from IstanbulLovely trip to Princes Islands. We took the ferry from Kabatas to the biggest island (the last one). You need to get an Istanbul card from the machines outside the station (there is no actual ticket office at Kabatas station). The Istanbul card is 70 TL and you top it up with money. One way ticket per person is about 60 TL so you need about 120 TL for return ferry. Multiple people can travel on the same Istanbul card. You can use this card for electric bus on the island. We didn't use it because we chose to walk around the island instead. You can rent a bike if you want to explore or there are electric taxis available. The island is beautiful with lots of wooden houses and nature. Great views of the sea, other islands and parts of Istanbul. Restaurants by the harbour are a bit pricey but it is expected. The ice cream is delicious. Ferries run every hour. I recommend getting there in the morning. Ferry takes about 2h from Kabatas to the biggest island. We returned with the 6.30pm ferry and caught a lovely sunset on the way back.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 April 2024
- Annabel MSydney, Australia34 contributionsBuyukada Island (a Prince Island) IstanbulThe islands can be done as a tour or you can catch a ferry yourself to explore, which is much cheaper (80tl) each way & can be bought at the ticket office at Kabatas, where there is a tram stop. The ferry stops at two of the islands & we went to the largest, Buyukada, over an hour travelling time. We walked, but would hire a bike or electric car next time as the hills are steep! Fantastic architecture to look at plus at the highest point there is an abandoned orphanage, monastery and cafe next door with outstanding views. We caught the 3.30 ferry back which was quite crowded, so don't leave too late. An optional extra was entertainment on board with showman selling kitchen gadgets, who were hilarious & made the time pass quickly. A relaxing day out and a bit different from chaotic Istanbul.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 20 May 2024
- ClaireMalta19 contributionsA definite must in Istanbul!Oh wow, the islands are a total must to visit. Very different from Istanbul. They are a small haven of peace in Istanbul and a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. We arrived by boat which took 1.5 hours. First island was the big one; Buyukada, an amazing place. No cars around, just electric buses, bicycles, scooters, walkable, very enjoyable, huge beautiful houses. Coffee shops and restaurants all around. 2nd island was Kiniliada, much smaller, pretty much the same but with very steep hills.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 August 2024

My visit to princess island was terrible. First language barrier, secondly the people driving the carts dont know a bit of english so you can't communicate. I was with my one year old. We took a cart to take a round tour of the island. When we reach on the top, the cart driver said to leave and the next cart will pick us. We said cant we go down in same cart? she said i dont understand and she said to leave the cart. After hours of waiting my baby was too exhausred and tired. a cart came and didnot stop and went down with the same passengers. I was shocked that why she said to leave the cart when she can take us back. After long waiting there was cart coming and on my surprise when we trying to sit in they said pay again and then sit. My baby already cried for an hour and they didnot bother and again misguided to recharge the card by telling the wrong route to shop. My husband went to recharge the card on that wrong route and after an hour he appeared in forest with so much anger and dissappointment. We already paid them in start and wanted a round trip like many people taking in same money. Atleast they should mention to charge the card as next cart will charge you again. We get back down to main land just a minute before our ship going back to main city. Whole day wasted and the most painful is zero curtosy of people even they watched my baby was crying too bad and too restless. zero understanding of language. Atleast they can print the rules and tell every tourist before riding, There was nothing on top just few swings and a small tuck shop. I would never visit this princess island because of this terrible experience.

Dear Guest,
First of all, thank you for your comment.
I have read your comment over and over again. I am so sorry for what happened to you. But I couldn't understand how you let this event make you unhappy in one of the most beautiful places in the world like the islands. This is a corner of heaven with its nature, landscapes, historical buildings, the most famous and important figures of the world, who lived or lived. As an island, I visit this magnificent place on foot whenever I can, and I enjoy it every time. I wish you could enjoy the moment without getting stuck with what you are going through.
Although we offer private service to our guests, you can call us free of charge in such cases.
In addition, the islands are too beautiful a place to be interpreted badly due to such small events. Please enjoy when you come here.
Yours sincerely

Adalar Islands or Prince Islands, to go you can take a ferry to the port of Eminonu or Kabatas, depending on the nearest Istanbul coast. The company Dentur Avrasia charges 80 Turkish lira pax each way (160 Turkish lira/pax in total), in cash (not accepting cards) and takes from Eminonu to Biggest Island Buyakada, about 1 hour 10 minutes, stopping once on Ehibeliada Island for 5 minutes. If you go from Kabatas, it will stop at Eminonu to charge, so it would be like 1 hour and 25 minutes in total. Along the way they make you a little show to sell you some cheap product, very fun, and are practical things. You don’t need to buy, but I bought both ways 😆. A multipurpose peeler per 100 lire and a 20 lire juicer cap. If you want you can swim in one of the private beaches. Blue Beach charges you 500 Turkish lire per person, including hammock, umbrella and dressing room. If it's too hot, I think it's worth it, although I haven't tried it because I wasn't wearing a swimsuit. The rest of the island info is what it says on any web page.

I am looking at the mixed reviews for this place and I am glad I had some research before I went.
Advice for future travellers.
Get yourself a Istanbul card and top up (like London oyster-card) to get ferry, boat, tram and metro.
Download google translate hard to communicate otherwise.
Do not do this as a tour as your can use Istanbul card and get a ferry to the island. It take up to 1.30hrs to get to Bukuyuda island as the ferry stops at different points to pick up passengers and Bukuyuda island is the last Island for ferry journey. (28TL per person one way)
Once you get there the is the sea front with restaurants and shops which is okay to have a look around for lunch. (many people only stay in this area only.. do not do this explore the island otherwise you will feel disappointed and frustrated.
Cons: electric buggy line can be long and we queued an hour which again you can use your Istanbul card (there are top up machines situated near the queuing line).
You can queue in the long line or there are smaller private buggies which you can hire for just your family.
Nice ride across the island viewing beautiful old houses. however as we could not find anyone that spoke english our first mistake was we assumed that the last stop on the buggy ride was the peak point of the Island however the buggy just us brought back same point we queued much to our dismay.
We decided to get a private buggy this time and paid a-little more to go back up.
Honestly if you like hiking up steep hills than walk but in the heat I would not suggest this and would suggest you to pay and use a electric buggy.
However the dismay disappeared as we came across the peak point of the island which has lovely views of the sea and Island and also for those who love Instagram there are alot if insta worthy points to take a nice photo.
We also went to the a beach where you can swim and the water was really nice and clear.
I am glad we made the decision to go back up after our first failed attempt as the views and beach made the trip worth it.
If you don't visit the parks and just stay at the sea front I think you will you have wasted your journey

Dear Guest nazuma001,
Thank you very much for your informative and detailed comment.
It may be more efficient to plan this tour with a local guide. This means exploring other beautiful places that you wouldn't be able to see on your own. I see from your comment that you are having problems with scheduling. If you had received information from us before, you could visit all the important places without wasting any time.
You can plan your visit to the Prince Islands with us on your next visit.
Best regards

Decided to take a day away from busyness of the previous 7 days. Ferry ride showed signs of things to come - loads of people. My suggestion is to explore Heybeliada island, if you want to avoid big crowds.
Check the timetables when you arrive at the islands.

We took a trip via "Insider", where was shuttle from hotel to boat, trip to two Princes Islands, lunch on a boat and shuttle back to hotel. We liked it, however next time i would recommend to take ferry directly from Istanbul Eminone for about 30 TL and having a lunch on Islands, instead of going from hotel to hotel to collect people for a trip, then wainting on a boat for other buses, it saves a lot of time and gives you a flexibility. You can walk on those Islands, some of them are without cars (only electric cars, scooters, etc).

We took a 2 hours boat trip from Besiktas area to this island by ourselves without any tour and it costed us almost nothing. The island is a nice place with beautiful villas to explore and terrific views of the beach up from the hill. There are no cars on this island only electric vehicles and bikes. Lots of dining options and several cafes in addition to lokma and ice cream shops. Don't forget to get a souvenir from one of the street vendors.

Dear Visitor,
Thank you for your valuable comment. Yes, it may be less costly to visit individual islands alone. But with a local guide who knows his job, the trip can be more informative, comfortable and fast. If you prefer comfort and speed over cost, you may need a guide. With our guidance, you can easily reach many opportunities without waiting in line and quickly.
You can benefit from our private tours and special services, as well as from our free information. You can have free ideas about the Prince Islands.

Dear Guest tubbies74,
First of all, I am very sorry for the negative experience you had. The source of your problem is that you choose the wrong channel to visit the island. In fact, the Prince Islands are among the most beautiful places in the world. If you had done this tour with a good company, believe me, you would not want to leave the island.
If you plan your tour with us on your next visit, we would like to show you our real island.

Perfect daytrip from Istanbul if you have 4 days or more there as we did. We just took the ferry, it is public transportation, cost around 20 TL per person one way. We went to Heybeliada, beautiful island, I did not want to go to the biggest one because it seemed to get very full. Heybeliada was perfect choice, it was so calm, there were people but not full. Definetly mostly locals there. And beautiful sunset when we went back!

We pre-booked and paid for the outbound ferry only from Eminönü on Wednesday 26th June and stipulated very clearly twice we wanted the tickets for Friday, which was for my husbands birthday. On the Friday, we showed up for the ferry and checked with the same man in the kiosk that our ticket would be accepted and he confirmed it would be. However the girl on the barrier refused to let us board and when she checked with the man in the kiosk he denied even knowing us. I didn't want it to spoil my husbands birthday so we paid another 160TL. This kiosk employee is dishonest so be warned.

Written 16 February 2020
Dear Traveler Hello,
Unfortunately, you cannot rent tricycles on the islands. There are only two-wheeled bicycles here. Apart from bicycles, there are electric vehicles belonging to the municipality. If you want, you can tour the island with them.
Apart from this, you can contact me if you have different issues about the island.

hello ,,,,i can get the fast ferry for 10 TL from any of these places or the fast ferry only sails from certain ferry stations
whats the nearest ferry station to taksim??
Written 5 February 2020
Hello
From Taksim you can take taxi to one of these ports (Aminono or Kabtash) and take your ticket
My advice to not be fast and in hurry as the journey in the ferry deserve to relax and watch the amazing views and stops
There are 3 stops before the final island which most of the people go into but you can even stop in the other earlier islands
Ticket price depends on your entry and exists

Hello Dear Traveller,
Dentur, which you get on from Eminönü, and reaches Büyükada in approximately 1 hour. When you get on from Kabataş, this time increases to 1 and a half hours. Apart from these options, there are also private sea taxis. These can reach Büyükada from Eminönü in approximately 40 minutes.
If you want to come to the island by private sea taxi, you can contact me.
