The area
Neighbourhood: Uskudar
Home to more than half a million residents, Uskudar on the Asian side of the Bosphorus is one of Istanbul’s most densely populated neighbourhoods. Once a Greek colony, later a haven for people from across the Mediterranean and the Middle East, this gateway to Asia has been an active and diverse hub for eons. Still, visitors to Uskudar are often more overcome by its myriad treasures than by its many thousand residents. And with fairytale settings such as the “Maiden’s Tower” as well as grand examples of Ottoman Era architecture, plenty of parks, a gorgeous and lengthy coastline, and some of Turkey’s holiest sites, there’s no end to the sightseeing possibilities. Easily reached from the city’s European shores via a steady network of ferries, time spent in Uskudar reveals a “real life” Istanbul that many who experience find extremely fascinating.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Seen from a Bosphorus river cruise as we sailed by, the complex sits prominently close to the river, with only one minaret.

Semsi Pasa Mosque is one of the wonders of the great architect Sinan. It is located, literally on the shore of Üsküdar and one of the smallest mosques that he built. The main hall of the mosque can only take 25 people at most and has beautiful dome. It has 1 minaret and 2 doors one looking at the town and the other opening to the banks of the sea. Part of the courtyard was turned to library that university students use today. It is a great place to take scenic or panorama pictures of Bosphorus also. A-must-see place for cultural trips.

Semsi Pasa Mosque complex is built by famous architect Mimar Sinan along the bosphorus in sixteen century. The characteristic of this mosque as an architectural point of view "seagulls and pigeons don't land to the top of the domes". Recently renovated and the ambiance of the mosque amazing....

This small mosque bears the signature of the famous Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan. It’s located directly on the water front. Its interior has nothing notable left from the original. The gallery on its two sides serves as a library today. The small cemetery at the courtyard is beautiful.

Şemsi Ahmet Pasha Mosque, located on the coast of Üsküdarı, which was repaired by the General Directorate of Foundations in 1940, was completely renovated by a family in 2008 and 2010, and landscaping was also done. There is also the tomb of Şemsi Ahmet Pasha in the mosque and its garden, and there is also a tomb that is currently open. There is also a municipal library.
