The first thing you are told when you book is that this is not entertainment; it is a religious ceremony which you are invited to watch if you are respectful. Being respectful means taking no photos and not making any noise (including applauding). It is difficult for somebody from our cultural background to accept and it is wrong to say... More

Initially, I had concerns about a Whirling Dervish show being touristy or boring. After talking with several locals, this was the only company that was consistently recommended. I saw the performance on May 6, 2017. I was able to get a ticket the day of, and I was able to see everything well from my seat in the third row... More

I have just attended the dervish whirling show, its beautiful and peacful. But i was very dissapointed that we were not allowed to take even a picture or a short video for our own memory to keep for ourselves(putting in mind its a paid event). When i came to ask, the reason was not to disturb the mevlanas while doing... More

I've always wanted to see one of these performances in real life and it was mesmerising to watch. The exhibition before was interesting to see. The only thing I would like to see differently is a short commentary either before or after the performance just outlining exactly what the significance of each aspect of the performance means.

I always wanted to see a live performance. This location was near our hotel (2minute walk) and closet to sirkeci metro stop (literally few seconds walk). These shows are high demand so purchase your tickets in advance. Light refreshments are provided before the show, and the point is stressed to come early. Seating number is provided but once in the... More

I went to the dervish cerimony in the Hodjapasha Center in Istanbul in April 2017. Very very nice and almost hypnotic cerimony. Very interesting.

Perfect show. You not allowed to take pictures or videos during show. Just sit back and enjoy it, so hypnotising. Very calm and spiritual. The dervish show lasted an hour. Well worth to visit.

We respect the religious aspect of this, but if you are thinking of checking this out, it is nothing like video's we have seen of this. This is quite boring and I agree with some other reviewers, you need to be in the right frame of mind, it is repetitive, and if a shorter version does exist, do that!

I came here to watch the whirling dervishes. I was surprised looking at the crowd as it was full-house. I'd highly recommend this spiritual performance if you are a fan of rumi/sufism because otherwise you wouldnt be able to appreciate the show. I was amazed by the performance. Speechless. It is just different and very intriguing.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
