Nothing beats seeing the best of historic Istanbul than with a guided tour (Istanbul Walking Tours) of the Sulthanmet area; home to the top historic and cultural sights of the city. A fluent licensed guide took our small group which definitely aided me in gaining an even deeper understanding of the city. By making use of a guided tour, we... More

I saw a brochure in my hotel for some advertised trips. I've always wanted to see Cappadocia and ride in a hot air balloon. I thought that a last minute trip would be out of the question, but I was wrong. I e-mailed and asked if what I wanted would be a possibility and within a few hours Omer e-mailed... More

We toured Istanbul and the Bosphorus River for a half day with our guide, Ilker. He is a man passionate about Istanbul! So knowledgeable and passionate about his city and country. We enjoyed his commentary and level of information about Istanbul. It was a great introduction to the city.

Good tour. Was a small group, so easy to manage. They bus you to the starting point (south end of Hippodrome area) and from then on it is entirely on foot, which is fine as everything is close by. You see everything they advertise (order shifted on Fridays as Blue Mosque only open for tours after lunch). Tour guide very... More

For my first every holiday in Istanbul, I really wanted a recognised, approved and trusted Tour Guide service and having looked around, I realised that Istanbul Walks would be the best fit for my needs and even better was the fact that I would also earn mileage towards my Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles frequent flyer account ! I booked the Istanbul Classics... More

We found a brochure in the hotel reception which detailed the excursions' available. We chose to go on the Bosphorus Cruise (€35 each). This really was well worth the money. The guide met us at the hotel reception, and took us onto a small mini bus. He shared some of his extensive knowledge of the area as we drove to... More

We had a wonderful tour of the historic area of Istanbul with Ali, who was super nice and informative. He gave us great info, and was just a lovely man. My only complaint is that it was a long day. I actually asked Ali about this and he said that the tour company faces a problem as most people want... More

We booked a food walking tour, and were surprised by what we learned. Our tour guide was amazing he took us to a place were only the locals go to play the game "okey". It was a traditional game local men who are retired come to play and socialize. We loved it...then our tour guide took us to Taksim square,... More

Our guide, Muharreem, picked us up from our hotel and informed us that, since we were the only people who had booked the morning tour, we'd basically be getting a private tour. We were very lucky. Muharreem did a great job of helping us understand the history and current culture, and never rushed us. After taking us to Rustem Pacha... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
