Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We took the ferry from Eminonu to Emirgan, and from there is was a short walk to the museum. There is an entrance fee which for some reason the credit card machine was not working, so we had to pay in cash. We started our visit by viewing the current exhibition by David Hockney, and then went to the bottom floor to look at the exhibition on the life and art of Abdülmecid Efendi which was more interesting. The house itself was a bit underwhelming, but walking outside in the garden was more pleasant.

The museum's website lists free entry on Wednesdays. But show up at the museum and they'll tell you this is out of date info and you need to pay entry. No explanation, no apology. Obviously I wasn't the first person to have this experience, but they're happy to let people know only at the door that they've been misled. Terrible communication over cancelled Marina Abramovic tickets. Decent small collection, but I won't bother with them again.

Grossly mismanaged museum. As you enter the gates the sign directs you up a steep hill to the museum. As you enter the museum and with security screening you will be asked for a ticket to enter by the security guard, not by someone to direct to the ticket counter. Oh, the ticket counter is at the bottom of the hill you just lumbered up! There is no indication to this ticket counter as you enter the museum grounds. Nothing starts my afternoon better than a screaming and inarticulate security guard.

The house, and now the museum of one of the richest people in Turkey and the world, Sakib Sabanci, is located in a very picturesque place, on the banks of the Bosphorus in the Emirgan region. You can get there by bus or ferry; the Emirgan ferry pier is located nearby. The entrance is free. A beautiful mansion and green, well-kept grounds are inviting. Inside there are many paintings by Turkish masters of painting and sculpture. I would come back here to take a good look at them again, to admire them without haste and fuss. Also nearby is the huge Emirgan Park, where you can have picnics and just sit, and the Tulip Museum is literally a stone's throw away. But to do this, visit here in April, during their flowering season. In the Tulip Museum there are dishes, clothes and other items with images of tulips

A wonderful museum and a great experience; a little bit off the beaten track but well worth the effort of getting there and this is how you do it: take the tram to Kabatas, get off at the last stop. On your right you will see a bus station. There are 4 islands where the buses stop and there are no indications as to which bus stops where. You want the 25E and it stops at the island nearest to the sea. Ask the driver for Emirgan. The trip takes between 35 and 45 minutes and it is a pleasant ride up the Bosphorus. The museum is housed in a villa in a very lovely park overlooking the water. I saw an Anish Kapoor exhibition, worth any amount of travelling to see - simply fantastic. Dont miss lunch at the restaurant. A little pricey by Istanbul standards but such delicious food.

Every major city has a gem like this one, understated, under promoted, away from the center, devoid of the crowds, where one can have a true cultural experience. Sabanci is one of them. It starts with the ferry ride on the Dentur Hop On Hop Off Boat from Kabatas that drops you in right in front of the entrance after a beautiful 45 min boat ride on the Bosphorus, This is the best way to get here. What you will find here is a relatively modern mansion with Victorian era furniture pieces in the living rooms etc, but more importantly, an excellent collection of some rare Turkish treasures ranging from sketches to calligraphy to costumes to paintings etc. It was Sabanci's mansion (he was a major Turkish industrialist who donated this entire place and the collection to the University). The displays have been done in a very beautiful way that is a pleasure to walk through. You are given an iPad at the entrance (no extra cost) that can be used to read the various markers and get more detailed information. A very nice, modern touch. The day we went, we were the only 2 people in the entire place. There was a party in progress on the grounds outside, but otherwise, none of the bus loads of senior citizen tour groups or camera toting Chinese sprawling around. The entire place will be yours, with views of the Bosphorus from the terrace and the restaurant. Don't miss the video art homage to Sabanci himself in one of the galleries. It is a masterpiece!

Definitely worth an afternoon trip. The best way to do it is to take Dentur's Bosphorus boat tour that allows you to hop on and off. You can stop at a number of towns to explore, including the one where this museum is located. There are some incredible exhibits here and the grounds and building are gorgeous. There is a lovely restaurant in the museum. However it is a bit pricey. There is also a bistro next to the museum. Definitely worth a visit.

Very easy to arrive to the museum with public transportation bus from Besiktas to Sarıyer. along the Bosphorus European side of İstanbul.
The entrance price was 20 TL , if you go there at least a ten people group the price decreases to 15 TL
I suggest you to go the Sabancı Museun on Wednesday because entrance is free.
Don't forget to Mondays the museum closed.

This museum, close to Emirgan Park, is a bit of a hike from the downtown area but well worth the trip. You enter by walking up through the well manicured grounds, past sculptures both modern and classical, pause by a view spot that will give you a breathtaking view of the Bosphorus and the Fatih Bridge, and make your way finally to the museum at the top. Whether you view the museum's permanent collection of Ottoman Art and Calligraphic Materials, or the special exhibits (right now the Juan Miro) you have a treat in store for you. Don't miss the open air cafe on the top floor with an even better view, and with food and drink above what you'll get at a street cafe. You can get there by the Hop Off-Hop On Bosphorus cruise or you can grab any one of a dozen buses that go up and down the shore road or you can of course take a taxi. It is free on Wednesday and open till 8:00 PM.

The exhibitions vary, but the mansion remain the same, very well worth the visit. Fabulous place, in Emirgan. Take the 1035 boat to Sariyer and bus 25E back to the museum. a lovely trip.

Are they putting an addition on the museum?
Written 10 November 2017
If you are asking if they are adding a new wing, no, they cannot add new buildings because 1.) the site is rather small and 2.) new construction is not allowed in that district.

There is a calligraphy exhibition currently on. Are there any books in English on calligraphy for sale in the museum shop?
Written 15 February 2016
I didn't spot any English language books in the museum shop. But you may like to try the excellent Galeri Kayseri, on Duvanyolu near to the Sultanahmet tramstop - they have a wide selection of English language publications in many specialisms.
