There is Ayyub’s tomb who is the one of prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) companions. It was fabulous, it has certainly own spiritual environment. The first opening date is 1458 and the restoration is 1800. Besides, this area is holy for Ottoman sultans during to the reign ceremonies.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 24 March 2024
- Sumi628London, United Kingdom74 contributionsPeaceful Eyup Sultan areaWe love this mosque & surrounding area The mosque holds the tomb of the companion of Prophet Muhammed, Abu Ayyub al-Ansari. He died here during the first Arab siege of Constantinople (Istanbul) It is a very peaceful area with many shops, restaurants and stalls. I would highly recommend having a meal/snack here. The prices are cheaper than other areas. The shops selling beautiful dresses are also very affordable. On the side of the mosque you can take a cable car to the picturesque Pierre Loti area which has amazing views over Istanbul ( it's a 5 minute ride). I can't remember the exact cost but it's very cheap. On the way down we chose to walk - a long route along the graveyards next to the mosque. A beautiful peaceful areaVisited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 May 2024

- Caroline13 contributionsNon Muslims should check out for the cultural and religious observational experience! This is a religious pilgrimage for many Muslims. I recommend non-Muslims to go and see what it is all about. The Mosque is believd to be where Ebu Eyüp el-Ansari (Abu Ayyub al-Ansari) is buried, friend and standard-bearer to Muhammad. The area will be removed from tourists outside of the religious tourism- and worth the cultural and religious observational experience. Just be mindful of religious practices and wear modest clothing. If you take the ferry down the Golden Horn, you basically get a cruise at the cost of public transit ticket to the destination.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 September 2024

The Eyup Sultan Mosque is today actively used as a place of worship and worship of Allah. At the time of its construction, it had more than one architect and today it is one of the holiest places of worship in the country due to its importance in Islam. It is used as a place of worship, but it is also a tourist attraction, so you have to be very careful during prayer not to disturb the worshipers. The neighborhood where the mosque is located is also called Eyup Sultan and you will notice that it is a more conservative part of Istanbul compared to the others. Although it suffered due to many natural disasters throughout history, these damages were repaired over time. Definitely a recommendation to see and experience.

Eyüp Sultan Mosque Eyüp Sultan Mosque has a rectangular plan and a protruding mihrab. The Central Dome leans on six columns and arches based on pillars. There is a half-dome around it, the Tomb of Eyüp Sultan in the middle, a spring at the foot of the sarcophagus, and a centuries-old plane tree in the middle of the courtyard. The length of the minarets of the Mosque, which was repaired many times after 1458, the year it was built, were initially short, and new tall minarets were built in 1733. In 1823, the Sea Side Minaret was Rebuilt Because It Was Damaged by Lightning. Sinan Pasha Pavilion in Front of the Sentence Gate was Destroyed in 1798. In its place, there is a fenced set and a grass sofa in the shade of a large plane tree. There are four drawers in the four corners of the railing. These are called Hacat Fountains and Kismet Fountains. After it was repaired, Selim III, who opened the mosque and prayed, has Mevlevi coins on his fingers because he was a Mevlevi. The Outer Courtyard Has Two Doors Opening To The Street. The Inner Courtyard Has 13 Domes Based on 12 Columns. The middle of the courtyard is the fountain. The tomb has a single dome and 8 corners. There is Nakş-ı Kadem-i Saadet at the Entrance of the Tomb, and a fountain is located to the right of it.

Beautiful mosque, you can see the religiosity and importance for the attendees. Free entrance. The square in which it is located is very lively. You can combine the visit with the climb to Pierre Lotti Hill and have a drink at the cafe at the top

It is one of the mosques in Istanbul, Turkey.
This mosque was built in 1458 by Sultan Mohammad the Conqueror. The current mosque was demolished in 1800, except for the minarets of the previous mosque, up to its foundations, and was rebuilt under the supervision of Hossein Effendi.

Eyup was the first place I visited in my 3W staying, I then went back because I felt good being there.
The mosque, of course, expecially the Mausoleum, the square, the cemetery on the hill to Pierre Loti: once you are here don't stop at the first level, go up to the second terrace that has a better view on the Golden Horn.
You can find tourists mainly around the mosque and at the famous Cafè Loti, I had the possibility to chat with nice people, despite great difficulties with the languages, as they don't see many foreigners wandering about.

It was one of the mosques that most impressed me among the many I visited during my trip to Istanbul. Especially since it is located in a very populous district of the city, away from tourist areas and truly authentic. The mosque has a sacred value for Muslims and is the object of pilgrimages because in a chapel outside the mosque, on the left, it houses the remains of Eyup Ensari, cousin of the prophet and also an imprint of the same in a shrine. Inside the mosque, beautiful carpets and tiles. On the square overlooking, many people and stalls that give the whole an aura of authenticity.

While traveling in Istanbul, I had the incredible opportunity to visit the resting place of Abu Ayub Ansari. It was a serene and tranquil place, filled with an aura of peace and spirituality.
Abu Ayyub was one of the Ansar of early Islamic history, who supported Muhammad ﷺ after the hijra (migration) to Medina in 622.
It is said that it was outside Abu Ayub Ansari's house that the prophet ﷺ's camel sat down when she arrived in Medina, and that's where Allah's beloved ﷺ stayed when they first arrived in Medina.

وعلیٰ الک واصحابک یاحبیب ﷲﷺ
💚
We were staying in Taksim, so to get here, it took us around 40 minutes in the taxi, and it was so worth it. If you're in Istanbul, I'd highly recommend you visit. You won't regret it

For Muslims, it is the holiest pilgrimage site in Istanbul.
I originally planned to take a ferry from the Besitaksh Residual Bridge on the north side of Dolmabahçe Palace to Eyup, cruising around the Golden Horn, but it was cancelled that day, so I took the ferry to Eminönü, and from there I took the recently opened tram number 5 to Feshane, which was about a 5-minute walk.
And on the way back, we took tram number 5 from Eyup, stopping in the neighboring district of Barat Fener.
Tram number 5 is very convenient as it has many trains.
When visiting a mosque, you need to be careful about the time. There are six services a day - before dawn, sunrise, early afternoon, afternoon, after sunset and night - and they usually close 30 minutes before the service and open about 35 minutes after the service ends.
You also need to be aware of how you dress and behave because this mosque is the holy place of pilgrimage for Muslims after Mecca and Medina, and it is not a tourist mosque like the Blue Mosque but a very sacred place.
This is because the mosque contains the mausoleum where Eyup, an ally of the Prophet Muhammad of Islam, is said to be buried and contains the relics of Muhammad.
It is also home to the coronations of previous Ottoman sultans, making it the most prestigious mosque in Turkey.
When I went, there were many pilgrims from overseas, and I felt a majestic atmosphere.
Behind this mosque is a gondola station that climbs the hill, and on the hill is Pierre Loti, a famous café with a view, crowded with people relaxing with chai after the pilgrimage.
I was happy to find a cute bracelet in the shop behind this mosque and it was very cheap.
The area between neighboring Fennel and Barat has been a hot tourist destination in Europe lately, with many stylish cafes and restaurants.

This was such a surprise! The guide I was with suggested that we stopped by. Unfortunately it was at the very beginning of my trip so I did not immediately grab how unique this was. Walking through the cemetery was also very interesting on its own terms.
Bottom line: visit Hagia Sophia first and then come here. You’ll be wowed!

How far is it from the blue mosque?
Written 23 December 2016
We took the tram from Sultan Ahmet to Eminonu and then caught the number 99 bus to Eyup which took approx 30mins. The bus stop is a two min walk from the mosque. We used our Istanbul card for the tram and bus, it is pretty cheap. Around 10tl for the return journey.

Hi everyone,
I'd like to visit this area after reading reviews, please advise me about:
* Recommended duration: would it take a whole day ? half a day?
* Best time to go?
* Is it doable if I am staying in Sultanahmet?
Thank you!
