Choose your staff carefully!

My name is Rufaida. I undersrand both languages English and Turkish. Today, on 12.7.2021 I was in Istanbul new airport. At the passport check point I met this guy. He was talking very disrespectfully with his colleague about me and my friend, in Turkish, I pretended I didnt hear it. Then he started to talk to me in a very disrespectful tone and face expressions. He said: "Rufada?" (Spelled my name wrong, which is fine), than I corrected him: "Rufaida". "Neisse", he said (in Turkish, meaning: whatever). Again I said nothing. I didnt undersrand we were done. Using his hands as if we were animals, he said, "common, leave". I was about to say something as a reaction to his behaviour when he said: "shut up". Yes, very simple like that (he said this one in English). Right after that I talked to a person dressed with one of the airport's official oufits and looked like the one in charge/manager or something like that. He looked at me while I was explaining, and then he acted as if didnt exist, no reaction, not even 'you came to the wrong person' or something. Other airport workers and colleagues who saw it all said nothing. Our guy was still talking very nicely to me and about me. Of course, he wouldn't tell me his name, so together with the no one to help/to tell situation, I took his pictures. It drove him crazy. "Abla", he said (my sister, in Turkish. He had to try something nice). Then he threatened me. Yelled at me. I said - if you did nothing wrong you wouldnt care about the picture, who are you to say "shut up" to me? "Yes, shut up, so?", he said. Not only rude but also smart, I see. I think people like him shouldnt work at a place that has respect towards humans that use it as a traveling point. I think all the workers in such a place should understand that and have zero tolerance to such behaviour. Well, his shirt doesnt say his name, but sadly, it says "Turkey". What a shame you bring to your country.

This was my third trip to Istanbul in the past ten months...
Oct. 2020
This was my third trip to Istanbul in the past ten months and each time I enter the new Istanbul {IST} Airport I am fascinated at both its’ size and well-designed layout.
The arrivals area is clean and enormous, but the walk is, the majority of times, quite long! The departure area is well set up with many check-in counters available, even when you fly domestic.
It seems like the airport really believes in many directional signs. I found it is not easy to get lost within the new Istanbul International and Domestic Airport.
I discovered that there is probably only one (1) major advantage of traveling during the virus pandemic…all airports are virtually empty! No long lines at the passport control and similarly no long lines at the check-in counters.

Bad experience for ladies in Istanbul airport
Oct. 2020 • Couples
It was the worst experience of the airport service ever since before COVID-19, really. I am a EU citizen, coming home through Frankfurt, and was searched by security like 3 times... it is not normal to search woman at the gate, to make her take off the shoes, and undress..Well, it was not only me, the most of the women were searched. The security woman was opening my bag herself without even asking me to open it. I’am not sure she has right to do it - it is my personal belongings! The security ladies would always ask to open my bag before they take some test, at all airports, but not IST!! At the end I checked that my Golden earrings were moved to another pocket of my bag. At the same time they could be stolen, and I would notice that only at final destination. If YOU at IST airport do not trust your security at point number 1, what is the point to keep them at all!??? It was the the craziest experience!

Huge
Aug. 2020 • Friends
It's really huge, like a small town. But all architecture disisions are really very light and you can feel space. There are a lot of boutiques, cafferties and passport control points. Being here you should think about your time because distances aren't short. Well done Turkey, excelente work.

Good, but not very good.

New Airport is good not average. Generally the airport lacks clear information for visitors upon arrivals. Just have to ask around, particularly when taking coach from Airport to Taksim or the Old City, you will find the coach station on the lowerground, at arrivals. It costs approx 25tl to Taksim Square and similar price on return journey. But finding a shuttle coach returning to the Airport isn't straightforward, but that's due to the lack of transparency of information in IST, you can't rely upon any website.

At departures, the big put off is the amount of times you or your bags are security checked, at least 4. Travelling back to the UK you have to complete an online track and trace and provide security with code, (you only find out at the airport). At baggage checkin you have to give the same code again, both are next to each other, you would think once they've registered the code to your passport number the two systems talk to one another! Inside departures other than inflated prices, a lot of kiosks are closed, hence limited options. Lots of seating and hand sanitisation available, its clean and modern.

Beautiful, large, new, modern and full of charm and character
Nov. 2019
We landed in Istanbul after a two and a half hours flight from Ben Gurion and the contrast between the two airports could not have been any stronger. Istanbul New Airport was beautiful, huge, new, modern and full of charm and character. In addition to the international brand stores you find everywhere, it had countless shops, boutiques and just open areas selling all kinds of Turkish stuff: food, coffee, spices, sweets, rahat (Turkish delight), halva, local souvenirs, evil eye protection talismans, clothing and so much more... We spent about two hours here but could have easily spent twice as much time... We loved it!

Quite a stretch
Oct. 2019
The new Istanbul airport is grandiose! Moving around requires quite a bit of walking. Walking from the farthest boarding gates can easily take up to 45 minutes in between the ends.
There are several options for transfer to Istanbul city, taxis are the fastest, Havaist buses are the cheapest. The ride takes at least 30 minutes between the edge of the city and the airport, an average of 60 minutes drive between the airport and hotels in the sub-hubs avoiding the city centre traffic.
The lack of metro/train access means that you have to either be ready to take the taxi, or rely on the timing of the buses. This consideration affect the time you have in Istanbul especially if you are visiting only in transit.
However, Istanbul is to lovely that having only a few day time hours in the city makes it worth the trouble.
