If you have time one evening, take in the opera! A seat in the parterre cost the equivalent of USD6. The opera company itself is very talented, and the building is quite beautiful. You will likely have your choice of seats; the night I saw La Traviata the theatre was not even a quarter full.

Set in a square with a fountain, the building is interesting and has been refurbished. There is an event board outside the front and to the left, which displays its forthcoming events. Sadly we did not have time to see a show.

Recently refurbished and stunning! We heard the opera singer Mussery Razzakova who was fabulous. Go formally dressed so you don’t feel out of place and be sure to get there at least half an hour in advance to explore the wall paintings and ornate, gilded plaster carvings. There are snacks, pastries and alcohol served on the second level. Also, specifically... More

The building has been renovated recently to a good standard and houses the city's opera and ballet theatre. I saw Romeo and Juliet and thoroughly enjoyed both the performance and the music. Several shows a week - mostly standard classical stuff but done to a very decent standard. Not a lot of modern anything on offer as far as I... More

Located a couple blocks from Mustaqillik Maydoni (Independence Square), the Navoi theater is Uzbekistan’s premier venue for opera and ballet. Consecrated in 1940 and completed in 1947, it seats 1,400 people for various shows; I was lucky to catch a performance of “Swan Lake” on my last night in the city. (Given its small size, any seat in the house... More

During our trip to Tashkent, Navoi Theater was not functional and therefore, we headed to Turkiston Opera & Ballet Theater, located in the vicinity of Mustakillik Square. To avoid disappointment, we bought two tickets at mid-day for 30,000/- Soum and returned to theater in the evening to attend the show at 6 PM. Ticket-Window with a board displaying variety and...
