- MarcusHurleyCalne, United Kingdom10,790 contributionsFascinating museum and displaysThe museum is in an unassuming building and cost 25k Soms each to go in. We actually spent a couple of hours inside looking at the exhibitions on silk making, musical instruments, jewelry, embroidery and other similar crafts. Every exhibit had an English description which was really useful. It was interesting to see the transition, maybe 50 years ago, from hand woven and embroidered items to machine made and also the change from natural to artificial dyes. Once we'd finished we sat in the courtyard cafe and had a coffee and Deb bought a couple of bits in the little shop.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 October 2023
- SarahGeneva, Switzerland1,173 contributionsA great museum to better understand the countryA key place to visit in Tashkent, to better understand the country, its traditions, history, art. If you are into this type of museums, make sure to allow enough time to the visit. Yes, the museum is not particularly big, but deserves proper time. I found it fascinating and beautiful. Unfortunately, in our case the museum was just one “item” in a very packed day in Tashkent. If you want to take your time, thanks to the written explanations (in English) in the different rooms it is not needed to have a guide, and you can visit the museum at your pace on your own.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 5 December 2023
- becklambert150 contributionsBeautiful, quiet museum.Enjoyed this small museum, a good and easy introduction. Went towards closing time and took about 90 mins. The main room was stunning. Nice and quiet. A good shop. Sat outside in the courtyard unhassled and the staff kindly flagged down a driver to take us on to the next museum.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 February 2024
- Andreea BBucharest, Romania42 contributionsLook for the starsFirst it is the court yard, shadow, slight wind and serenity. You stay a litlle, take a breath and then see the house. Richly and beautifuly decorated, with carved columns and door she stood so for more than 150 years. The wall ceramic decoration at first glance it looks similar to many Madrasahs we've seen so far in this region. But, right and left above the entrance there two David's stars. We've seen in Samarkand a museum similarly decorated in an old jewish house. But here, in Tashkent they do not mention that this building might have been a jewish property.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 May 2024

The hangings and paintings display the talents of traditional craft persons. A true concentrated look at life in Uzbekistan.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 28 August 2024

We went to this museum after reading such good reviews and were somewhat disappointed. The exhibit is quite small and the audio guide is quite dry. We saw a tour group with a human guide who seemed to make the tour a lot of fun, but we were not sure how to arrange a guide. We asked at the entrance about it but they didn't know either. For reference, the entrance fee is 25,000 som per adult.

Excellent museum set in a very beautiful and charming house of a Tsarist Russian diplomat. The exhibitions were small but very interesting and attractive. The museum shop is also a great place to shop for antiques and contemporary souvenirs. Friendly staff as well.

The walls, ceilings, wooden columns, and doors were works of art themselves. This museum houses over four thousand pieces of traditional Uzbek ceramics, carpets, wood carving, jewelry, metal chasing, items of clothing, and embroidery. Well worth a visit.

This small is much smaller than the State museum of art. It mainly focuses on local handicrafts and textiles. Very aesthetically laid out, with good collection of ikkat, carpets, sujon embroidery, metal ware and wood craft.

Honestly this museum is THE one to see in Tashkent if you’re strapped for time. I actually went to it last and it’s so beautiful I wish I had came here first! It’s hard to believe the stunning architectural detail only dates to the late 19th century. It’s a shame the handicrafts, jewellery and textiles inside only date to the late 19th or 20th century, but they’re still BEAUTIFUL. 25k som for foreigners and pics allowed. Everything is translated into English too!

It is a very cozy museum with quite small exhibition. It it shows different brunches of applied art. It was interesting to visit with you by children, because exhibition is dynamic and showing wiry different things: starting trim carpets, music instruments, ending with jewellery, plates and furniture. Museum has an interesting gift shop at the inner yard witch is like a little museum itself.

A pretty little museum with some good displays of clothing, musical instruments and furniture. The house itself is worth visiting and has an interesting list of past owners. Especially the reception area is grand, with beautiful fire places and elaborate ceiling decorations. Wonderful carved doors and columns. Inevitably there is a souvenir shop, but it has more than your average touristy stuff.
